I wasn't born when BA was born but, and this is just my own curiosity, how was/are BOAC and BEA pronounced? I think I read somewhere that BOAC was spelled out, as opposed to being pronounced 'BO-AC', but was BEA also spelled out, or pronounced as 'BEE'?

So is there a mole in Dublin who can't resist a bit of social media attention, is it all a 'planned' leak or is Shannon just a more discreet place to get your aircraft repainted?

Bealine was the callsign. BEA was spelled out B - E - A.

BOAC was officially B - O - A - C, but Bo-ac was informally used by some.

You can still hear its correct pronunciation thanks to some skiffle band that have probably now faded into obscurity, but thanks to the wonders of the internet I am fairly confident you will find somewhere...

"Flew in from Miami Beach B-O-A-C
Didn't get to bed last night..."

Unfortunately - not good news if you are trying to connect from MIA to CDG

But BEA's on strike
There's no planes flying
I can rent a motorbike
At least I'm trying
