Iím BA Silver but my other half has just had a positive answer for a job application with BA, so she will be joining a few of you in the skies soon. Iím pretty close to Gold, but was wondering if itís worth achieving/maintaining status whilst (I assume...) being able to enjoy her staff travel benefits? Can you use the lounges on ID90 tickets, status or otherwise?

Thanks

Yes you can, go for Gold.

Ah, happy days of banter and rivalry! :)

My old mate C4 would have a view on that!

Have BA changed their boarding process to Ďstartí boarding earlier? Iíve noticed (or should that be Ďperceivedí) recently that when in Group 1 boarding has commenced only to be held at the aircraft door (or on the bus if a remote stand) for a while. I just wondered whether Iím becoming more impatient or if there has been a change (presumably around punctuality) to bring the point at which the self loading freight are brought to the aircraft forward?

Yes it changed to have customers at the door at boarding time as time can be lost walking down the long jet bridges, customers are held back until the crew are ready, it doesn’t look professional in my opinion and we do get complaints but it seems it is helping our punctuality.

Thanks

I have family members who are BA staff and travel on BA ID90 and they have access to Lounges based on their BAEC status. And these are gifted Gold and Silver Card Holders, as Iím a GGL.

For you, if you can, then go for Gold and use the First Wing and guest your partner as well into First Lounge.

What does it feel like from a customers prospective?

Like there is lack of coordination. I think I'm trained to expect boarding doesn't start until the cabin crew (or whomever) give the OK, and then the only time that there is a holdup is if they are still removing wheelchairs, or maybe caterers are just finishing up. I would have thought it a mistake for being sent to stand in a jetway for X? minutes. In the winter or summer, jet bridge temperatures can be uncomfortable, so to me not optimal unless there is discretion.

As I thought but BA are seeing an improvement in punctuality so I don’t think anything will change.

Can't crew advise a couple minutes before they are ready to board, and have a message sent to the gate agents?

Are you trying to apply logic and common sense? :D

Well, to be honest, it doesnít feel very Ďpremiumí really. I donít like to be herded about and itís one reason I used to prefer BA over easyjet / Ryanair as they tended not to do the whole Ďready not readyí thing. This Ďcivilisedí experience (including boarding) was one of the benefits of BA.

Iím not at all surprised though under current management and the current market.
