Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Click here to access that thread.

Please remember to:
  • Convert currencies to GBP, rounding to the nearest pound.
  • Post full routes and full booking classes.
  • Note any restrictions on booking in the Notes section.
  • List in order of price per tier point within the relevant departure area.

Please see the links at the bottom of the wiki for archives of runs from previous years.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

Can anyone shed some light on the accuracy of the ba.com lowest price finder tool?

https://www.britishairways.com/trave...on=AFR&cabin=J

For some reason if you search for HYD, J, 14 Nights it's saying £579 in May, when every other month is £2k plus? If I click through to book it, there is nothing even close to £579, so rather odd.

Yes it was T2 at the time, no experience of T3. I'm going to do a TP run late april but think I'm going to lay off the back to back in CGK.

Has anyone back to backed in AUH on sri lankan so CMB-AUH-CMB?

It's not infallible, that sounds like an economy fare. The phone app is pretty good for finding low fares.

it does say it’s for J. I found some more of these oddballs - 9 night flights from LGW to BGI showing up in the tool as around £750 in September. Dates either side show normal J prices. Can’t actually book any of them though. I understand the low price finder uses cached data for performance, but I’m curious to know if at some point in the last 24 hours this fare existed, or it it just a bug in the low fare tool?

I think it's just a web foible. I saw that for some J fares domestically last year on the website.

On the other hand, the app works very well. I looked at Hyd and it's showing the same price across the board.

My call to AA didn't go particularly smoothly. lol

Still, 20 minutes later and we seem to have sorted it. Just waiting for updated tickets now. Thanks all for assisting this noob!

Edit - Seems to have come through OK. Will get the boss to proof read it tomorrow to be sure though!

Having a look for next year and have managed to find
INV-LHR-JFK-SFO in J for £1261.35, out 15 January and back on 22 January. This comes to 640tp and c33k avios (am OWS).
I'm not a true to runner as I like to combine with a holiday as well.

This comes up with all BA Flight numbers too. Does anyone have any experience of booking with flight network at all tried searching but couldn't find anything.

I may hang fire and see if I can get something close to this price post 8 September 2020 as I would get the longest benefit this way.

What was the problem with the call and what routing did you ask for and get?

Could also consider CGK-HKG-CGK on CX for GBP720. 140 TP each way, flatbed options on A350 / A330, excellent 1st class lounges in HKG. Or add on CGK-HKG-TPE for GBP800 return, for 360 TP total.

Flight Network have a habit of calling you after booking and telling you the airline have told them the price has gone up £200, you need to be ready for that with a list of fare rules etc. They also screwed up one of my bookings which would have been disastrous had I not noticed (to be fair they fixed it very fast when I told them). Personally I would jump through numerous hoops to avoid using. One of which would be Propeller travel, the fee is worth the money.

Thanks for this. The price booking through AA on the book with matrix tool is £1400 if I do it with AA flight numbers anyway. Will keep this in mind

Has anyone any experience doing a BA LHR-DXB-LHR, either as a b2b, or an overnight stay in DXB using the transit hotel? I'm quite keen to do this once the A350 starts operating the DXB route, and the tier points would be nice as well! Because of the fare rules, I was planning to make 2 bookings:

Sometime in October
Ticket 1: LHR-DXB
Ticket 2: DXB-LHR

Then a month or so later:
Ticket 2: LHR-DXB
Ticket 1: DXB-LHR

Not exactly an amazing value TP run I'm sure, but it's partly to try out the new a/c, and also home commitments mean I can't make a short break of it. This would also be my first TP run. From what I read DXB is easy for this sort of thing, but wondering if there are any things to watch out for to avoid a disaster with getting back on the return flight?

First two flights I tried didn't have two seats together. Then once we'd found a flight the system stopped working. Then when he got past that he said it hadn't gone through because someone else was looking at the booking (we assumed from when I'd had it open). Then finally he got it booked and said I'd have to wait a couple of hours for the tickets to come through (obviously that wasn't the case in the end).

I went for a straight shot SFO -> JFK in the end. My original flight was 07:50 and this one is 11:30 so I get a few more hours in bed as a bonus. Plus I get to try their long haul business seats twice.
