Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

Today I found my self rebooked PHX-JFK directly.
I would assume, that this could have to do with MCT in JFK.

I called in, and they re-instated the original itinerary.
From your experience, do we need to prepare ourselves that this will not stick?
Would you suggest to potentially already fly the night earlier from PHX in order to protect the BA 174 (747) booking?
Or would you rather suggest to change the BA leaving from JFK to the next flight (777)
In LHR we connect to BA6032 departing LHR to HEL.

Thanks for your thoughts.
Changing terminals in 88 mins in JFK from your AA to BA flights could make it tight.
If they really want to swap your flights about could they put you onto an earlier AA flight from LAX to JFK ( if possible ) and then connecting onto AA100 ( or similar ) out of JFK into Heathrow? This would save you changing terminals both at JFK and Heathrow enroute back to HEL ( assuming you are on AY out of T3 ).

As a side note Mrs SunshineBob and I will be a couple of days behind you on the OTP-PHX and hope to bump into you if our paths cross, we there 18th to 21st.

Have a great trip.

MCT between T8 and T7 is 2 hours. If you have any schedule changes which give you less than that on one booking it will not stick and will be changed at some point so you are better off being pro-active and calling to change it for something you want.

Thanks sunshinebob;30967128 for the feedback
Yes, would be great to have a drink on tour - we arrive PHX night 16 and leave 20 early morning.

Re our MCT challenge: I would rather want to keep the direct PHX-LAX-JFK same day w/o any overnight.
So then I probably need to change BA flight out of JFK to the later one. There is one 30 minutes later - however it is only a 777.

Thanks KARFA
Is the MCT also valid for T7 to T8 connecting AA to BA or only incoming int-dom T8-T7?

It's the same MCT for T7->T8 and T8->T7. 2 hours in each direction regardless of whether the flights are INT or DOM.

Thanks - then it looks like I have to take action proactively when it does not stick anyhow.

If you are struggling to get PHX-LAX-JFK-LHR-HEL to work with MCT’s, have a look at PHX-LAX-MIA-LHR. I did that last year with a B777 on the LAX-MIA leg and arrival into LHR T3 which helps on the MCT.

Hi all,

Looking for some input please around SEA as I'll be 620TP short of a GUF2.

I'm LON based and need to be in KUL for a wedding on 03/01 and 04/01/2020 and can stay in the region the week before or after.

With the time of the year, it looks like it'll have to be the week after as all the promotional fares rightly exclude the first week of January.

I've had a look at AUH-CGK, ARN-BKK, ARN-HKG but they aren't ideal as it would require positioning at both ends. I've had a look at KUL-TPE/CGK runs as a side trip, but they seem to be excluded for that time of the year.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to get 680 points during a trip in August (between leaving between 9-21 AUG for 6-8 nights). USA West coast seems like a desirable location as I'm based in London:

Anyone have any other suggestions how to get the points? No need for more than 680 as next tiers are too far anyways.

There is also the PHX-SFO-JFK-LHR-HEL which is an often overlooked routing, albeit frequencies are not as high.

I'd route DUB-LHR-JFK-LAX-LAS out, and LAS-LAX-JFK-LHR/LGW-DUB back, and drop the last segment.

Afternoon folks

I took advantage of the recent cheap Alaska fare for a TP run and have to position to AMS from Manchester. I'm considering using Avios to get there.

The first flight in the itineary leaves AMS at 16.50 (AA6507) which I believe is BA 439. What would be the best way to book the positioning flights?
Am I correct that the B2B flight leaving Heathrow at 12.55pm would be BA438. If so I know this is the most foolproof method but I've got the added complication of a
MAN-LHR to add too. As I'm so risk averse I was considering the following combo.which would leave me with the option of a later MAN-LHR flight if BA1387 went tec or something.
Any thoughts?

If you get delayed MAN-LHR, causing a misconnect LHR-AMS you may help a helpful agent in LHR to allow you to start your ex-EU from LHR.
Although there is precedence, it's not policy and comes to who you get on the day. Previous reports have suggested the ones in the lounges to be more willing to accomodate.

I'd personally go from MAN-LHR the night before.
