Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Please remember to:
  • Convert currencies to GBP, rounding to the nearest pound.
  • Post full routes and full booking classes.
  • Note any restrictions on booking in the Notes section.
  • List in order of price per tier point within the relevant departure area.

Please see the links at the bottom of the wiki for archives of runs from previous years.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

Pardon the text, can't take a screenshot. But you can have this for 235 if you go in ET out and back in CE. Just use ITA and chuck in "f bc=i|bc=r|bc=j|bc=c|bc=d" in the extension codes for either the outbound or inbound.

Could also do it in Y forcing the 10 TP buckets. May need to call BA to book as the site may not offer the right fare buckets.

AA won't let me book that kind of route on their site though - but that's what I had in mind. Why over a weekend, if I may ask?

GOT/ARN are normally a good Ex-Eu starting point for SEA, especially in PE. Haven't checked for the May dates you want though.

RE AA bookings: The AA site is now making it difficult to design your own connection points. I have to travel from NYC to CLT this coming summer and when trying to book LGA-xxx-CLT and return I could only get AA's site to allow xxx to be PHL or DCA (or other cities for which there was no front cabin). ITA Matrix will show connections in BOS, but I suspect you have to use an online TA. (I ended up booking LGA-PHL-CLT-DCA-LGA on AA as I didn't want to deal with Priceline etc.)

Hi all,

I need 205 TPs before my year end to retain gold.

I need to be in New York on 27/28th February, so I was thinking to try and make it into a TP run.

Does anyone have any creative suggestions - the base LHR-JFK return is £275 at the moment netting only 40 TPs. Because of the Saturday night rule, I will have to depart US on 3rd March, so have 1st and 2nd for any positioning flights.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated as always!

Thanks

Ouch, it seems like the latest wave of Ex-EU are gone. Saw AMS-YUL for 1100 GBP but then it was gone when I arrived home. No more GOT-HNL either.

I was pricing up an OSL-HNL run earlier today as well only to have it jump up a couple hundred quid - given how early all of these fares are getting pulled, it really is about firing the trigger as soon as you see something you like.

Not sure what your budget is, but we found Turin > JFK to be the cheapest via LHR.

Deoending on which flights you book, you can connect via LGW on the way out (taking a position flight from LHR or wherever to Turin), then on the way back you can connect coming in to LHR from JFK and out of LGW to Turin. This would mean you could fly in to LHR, collect bags and then drop the final sector.

That woukd give 40 + 140 + 140 if booked in business so 320 total. It was about £1200 for the dates I was looking at. If you took the whole trip I think it’s about £3.33 per TP so a bit pricey.

There might be options to optimise better!

My reset day is on 8th May. I have a return trip to Washington DC booked, going out on 3rd May and then flying back overnight 8th/9th May. So technically I take off on reset day but land the day after. Would this still count, is there any grace period in this situation? The booking brings me 25 points away from Silver.

Also based on the fact I may be 25 points from Silver, what would be the easiest way to get 25 tier points departing from Gatwick or Heathrow?

If your scheduled departure time is on the 8th then it will count for your old year, irrespective if when you land. You can get a 2 week grace period. If you phone up after flights have credited to your account they can apply them all to the previous year, if that would take you over a threshold to bronze, silver or gold.

KARFA, I noticed that AY's HEL-PVR (>6000mi flight) is missing (increased TPs). Maybe you can add it some time?
