Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Click here to access that thread.

Please remember to:
  • Convert currencies to GBP, rounding to the nearest pound.
  • Post full routes and full booking classes.
  • Note any restrictions on booking in the Notes section.
  • List in order of price per tier point within the relevant departure area.

Please see the links at the bottom of the wiki for archives of runs from previous years.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under Ł300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under Ł500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for Ł520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

is this a travel agent booking, BA systems will only price the #1563 etc for Ł3200, and I can't get the AA site to do it either. Powertools maybe?

Thanks for this - very helpful as I actually needed to travel to SJC.

If anyone is struggling to find availability on JFK-LAX, another option is BOS-LAX which now has two 321T flights per day which seem to have better availability, although with this option you can't build in a HEL transfer (though perhaps MAD might be possible - I haven't tried).

I booked through AA although it seems the same fare rules are available with BA by phone if you want to upgrade any segments with avios, although in my experience AA bookings are better as there is no longer any tier point difference for US domestic first and they are really helpful with rerouting options - even the slightest delay in schedule is pretty much carte blanche to completely change the affected segment's routing. They are also prompt with original routing credit requests following IRROPS which is helpful in the winter months.

For the INV outbound, I would recommend doing a B2B on the afternoon/evening flight the day before the TATL to avoid having to stay overnight in Inverness - there seems to be plenty of availability this far out so you won't have a problem finding space. The bottlenecks seem to be US transfers so you can also build in overnight stopovers in the US if you are struggling with availability on certain days.

I will be in New Orleans in a fortnight but will now have finished my business 36 hours before my booked flights back to the UK. I could change my flight and return early. Or I could fit in a small TP run. Ideally I would get 290 TPs so that when I hand after my MSY-PHL-LHR trip I would hit Gold.

Any thoughts on what’s possible from MSY in 36 hours?

Is that correct or there is something wrong there?

I need 155 TP by August 8th to reach silver. I'm looking for cost effective ways of achieving this. Ideally same day return or a cheap overnight.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks

Without knowing where you are or what you consider "cost effective" it's difficult to advise.

Have you read the Wiki at the top of the thread? 155 is a very convenient number of TPs to need and you have numerous options.

Sorry - In the UK, so ideally travelling from Manchester or Heathrow.

I have read the wiki, I was just curious if anyone had any great ideas or had seen cheap flights etc esp as a ba sale is on

Your best bet is to look at the sale - either an 2x80TP destination from LHR or a 4x40TP connecting flight from MAN. Or if you have any planned flights, just upgrade those to Club Europe.

Alternatively use Google Flights for any convenient dates to see what looks cheap. 155TP is not difficult, but nobody around here has any magic solutions...

Iceland, Malta or Sicily are all 160tp return. Iceland is a very easy turnaround you will be back in Heathrow by mid afternoon same day.

Damn, the timing of the BA First Class sale is frustrating - comes only a couple of days after I booked a J INV-LAS and upgraded to First using Avios.

Could have gotten a much better deal - and far better sequencing of flights. Had to make quite a few compromises on the schedule for find the right flights for upgrade.

But that's the way the cookie crumbles - still bloody annoying though

My guess it's due to the low demand, for many years, for flights on Feb 29.

Have a trip coming up May 22 - 28 to New York, leaving from London - happy to be flexible on stops and things either way, what's my best bet? Looking to maximise TP's to hit Gold for the year.

This isn't much to go on - further information needed.

You're looking for TP run to get to New York? Or how to maximise TP's when there?
