Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Click here to access that thread.

Please remember to:
  • Convert currencies to GBP, rounding to the nearest pound.
  • Post full routes and full booking classes.
  • Note any restrictions on booking in the Notes section.
  • List in order of price per tier point within the relevant departure area.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under Ł300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under Ł500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for Ł520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

A quick query for CDG-LAX in June/July shows both AA and BA calling it a non-refundable ticket.

They are non-refundable towards your payment method ( credit card ) however, you would be able to get a Future Travel Voucher when you book with BA or a Flight Credit when you book with AA that you could use in the future if you would like to cancel your itinerary.

Hi, I'm interested in doing a 160 TP run before my membership year finishes in mid Jan. Assuming they're back on the travel corridor list by then, I'm thinking of flying to Athens for a same day return from London. The BA website seems to allow me to book (for the same day) a return of:
07:55 LHR - 13:35 ATH BA0640
14:25 ATH - 16:30 LHR BA0641

I was wondering if anyone had any experience on:
a) Whether that is too short a turnaround time (I am guessing it's actually the same aircraft that will be returning and so I'd be at the right gate to disembark and re-board - or in ATH will I have to go through the full transit process)?
b) Whether if I miss my 'return transit' flight, if BA will help me get on the next available flight with no fee charged?
c) If I can avoid going through immigration and therefore avoid having to do a PCR test before flying to Athens (assuming it's still required to enter the country at that stage)?

I will be flying without any check in baggage if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello, and welcome to the FT forum. What you are describing is generally known, at least on here, as a back-to-back, or B2B - out and back on the same aircraft.

There is a great mine of information on the forum, about all things, which are mostly linked to in a forum ‘dashboard’ BA Forum Dashboard

The specific thread you want to start with is all about B2Bs https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...tinations.html

Go to that thread, and at the top of the first page - click to display the full wiki - which has all of the information gleaned about B2Bs in most locations. Then have a browse through the subsequent pages, and note the most recent questions about B2Bs and possible Covid procedures.

If ba.com allows an itinerary to be sold on the same ticket then they will help you if you miss the return, no problem.
But if any covid entry procedures are required in advance, they won’t let you board without evidence of having done it, whether it’s a test or a QR code or whatever.

Hi Shanova and welcome to FlyerTalk!

I can't speak about the COVID era but previously in ATH, passengers arriving from non-Schengen flights are not released directly to the departures hall but being directed to the arrivals level by stairs. For you, there wouldn't be any security check involved but an employee would be checking your passport/ID and your boarding pass, and then you would be allowed to go upstairs to the departure hall. Also, 55 minutes is a completely doable transfer in ATH. So, the answer for part c is that you would not require to clear immigration in Greece, however, you might need a PCR test or the Greek QR code to board the flight from LHR. A B2B is no considered as transit.

For part b, the answer is also "Yes" as you would be protected as you would be traveling on the same ticket. The transfer desks are located at the arrivals level before the transit document check in case you need to visit them.

Also, as you mentioned, if Greece is not in the UK travel corridor list, you would need to self-isolate yourself for 5 days followed by a PCR test.

i just got off the phone with AA. i have a 10 leg PNR SOF-LAX ticket according to the rules... LHR-JFK got rescheduled and got me a 30 minutes which obviously isnt okay.

both german call center and US call center told me that i have to get rebooked on the most direct routing which here would be LHR-LAX instead of LHR-JFK-LAX. otherwise i could take a refund.

question 1: is that a new policy?
question 2: is that correct?
question 3: what can i do about that?

does anyone have the link to the overview about rebooking rules? i think it was somewhere here on this forum earlier this year.

edit. got it: https://www.americanairlines.be/cont...ocument-BE.pdf

page 8 states:
American Airlines has a Schedule Change on AA* (AA Codeshare) [yes, its a BA flight that got rescheduled]
May select an alternate flight wholly AA/AA* (AA codeshare) maintaining same inventory, origin/destination, fare and fare basis as originally ticketed.

is that my case?

Assuming that you have booked before 30 September, the below policy applies.
Clearly, you are allowed to keep the same routing or even change the connecting cities.

https://saleslink.aa.com/en-us/blog/...on-policy.html

Also, this is the general schedule change policy for AA for tickets issued after 8 April 2020.

15TP by end of year

Not really a tier point run, but my boyfriend needs 15 TP by the end of the year to reach Gold (well, by Jan 8th but we're already away at Christmas). We have the next two weekends mostly free, but otherwise working so no longer trips.

Travel is so restricted at the moment I'm struggling to find anything for a daytrip/overnighter. I'm Gold already so a quick run somewhere is less of a hardship, but ideally i'd like a few hours somewhere rather than a back-to-back. Best I can come up with is EDI, MAN or JER and booking into a higher fare code on the return leg (not sure how you actually do this though). Any suggestions gratefully received!

Jersey will require isolation of up to 14 days, so probably not ideal for a short break. And travel between England and Scotland is supposed to be for essential purposes only. So it's going to have to be an English destination - but don't forget that hotels in Tier 3 cities, such as Manchester, are generally closed except for a very limited number of purposes.

AA has advised me that this does not allow me to cancel for a refund because they are still getting me to HNL at the same time.
So, just to update this with the outcome...

The second agent I spoke to agreed that I was due a refund, cancelled the itinerary and put a note on my booking. I applied for a refund via the "prefunds" portal on aa.com. The refund was confirmed within 72 hours and reached my account yesterday. So, not too bad at all in the end - 14 days from applying for the refund to getting it.

So, no bookings now until Easter, and certain that I will end my collection year on zero TPs, for the first time in goodness knows how long!

Thanks for that, useful info! Looks like it's a day trip or even back-to-back to MAN then...On a different approach he's called up CS and asked for an allowance to be made that BA screwed up our flights to MIL by failing to ticket them, apparently they're "looking into it"...

My LUX-SFO TP run in March is already hitting snags. Outbound from LHR-JFK has been canceled. Moved onto a later departure which would only leave me with a 50min connection time at JFK onto my next flight to LAX. Seems impossible. Will call YouFirst to try and get on the earlier flight otherwise will have to move my AA connecting flights.
