Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Click here to access that thread.

Please remember to:
  • Convert currencies to GBP, rounding to the nearest pound.
  • Post full routes and full booking classes.
  • Note any restrictions on booking in the Notes section.
  • List in order of price per tier point within the relevant departure area.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

Thank you for letting me know it will remain at zero, much appreciated. I'm not fixated on the transcons for the lie flat itself, it's about getting the 140tp's for the journey, I can fly info dfw, ord etc and then on to lax but then i'm only getting 40tp's. having said that my wife is much happier in a lie flat and if we can get it for the same price then it's a no-brainer.

If you only want the TPs, then why not do e.g. BOS-LAX? There's plenty of options out there. And don't forget the 140 TPs with CLT-PDX (or v.v.). But yeah, if your wife is insisting on the type of seating, then I can't offer anything else than a different date or flying direct to the West Coast.

Yes, thank you, i'm looking at the OTHER 2000 mile options now, IAD, PIT, CLT, MIA, PHL etc. The TP's are important as I plan to get 2500 and a guf2, so across the year that's what I'm working towards, I appreciate the advice. I just have to find something she can live with or accept less tp's this time and go for more next time as the amount of opportunities I have to fly is fixed.

I had a similar issue, no I class availability on the return journey, so I’m flying. ...LHR MIA LAX... and vice versa. 140tps and lie flat on the 777 MIA-LAX.

INV-LHR to East Coast to West Coast to PDX is the obvious way. 2x140 + 2x40 return is 720, avoid changing in ORD or DFW for example. Are you looking for something more complex? What are you finding that's not working for you. More info makes it easier to offer advice.

DFW based flyer flying to India - Anyway to get 940+ TP in Business for reasonable pr

I live in DFW and travel twice a year in Business to India.
I have already completed 1 round trip from DFW to BOM using regular routing (DFW - LHR - BOM) and have earned 560 TP. I now need another 940 TP to maintain my Gold and so wondering what is a creative way to get here. I plan to travel to India in June/July (dates are flexible) and so any tips/suggestions are welcome. If not 940, is there a way to get close to the same. I normally pay around $3000 to $3500 for my trips and so anything close to that price would be awesome!

Hi all, looking for a little advice. Trading to plan my first ever TP run. Can go anytime really over next few months. Need 200 points to maintain status but my searches out of GLa or Edi so far have proved quite fruitless. Everything seems to be in excess of £3 per TP?

I am obviously doing something wrong, but don’t know what? :-(

thanks in advance

i don’t know you dates, but GLA-LHR-HEL-LHR-GLA - £405 for 240 TP so ratio of 1.7 in May. Leaving on a Saturday morning allows connection straight to Helsinki without an overnight in London. Price may be the same from EDI.

bucharest slightly more expensive for same points.

The implication being that it's only the [in my example] LAX-EUG and SFO-LAX legs that are really likely to get shifted around, with a subsequent reducion in the odds of me "suffering" a schedule change.
Just thought I'd update with an answer to my own question here: have just had a change and it was the JFK-LAX leg! They seem to have dropped the 2:30 departure on 4th July [low loads and pilot holiday, one assumes] so I've been moved to the 3:30 - annoying as it makes our LAX connection pretty tight and doesn't seem to help me much in terms of there being other options.

Rather irritatingly, they've taken the opportunity to move my final JFK-LHR from the IB code to the AA prime - costing me a few Avios even though there was no change there.

I guess the one upside is I may be able to argue a free cancellation if I see a better price.

Flights to LAS just now coming in around the £2k mark ex-EU at present (business class), flying late April. What do the experts here think the chances are of the price dropping lower than this?

I remember last year buying a flight c.6 weeks out for £1.4k (same time of year). Of late however, all the deals this year seem to be going east rather than west.

1000 TP ( r/t ) for the combination below, how it would require a positioning flight to PHX which would meet your 940 TP requirement
If you originate in DFW, you would get 800 TP r/t.

The cheapest DFW-BOM or PHX-BOM fare in J is $2028+taxes = $3100-$3300.

There are some other dates available both for a PHX/DFW departure but aware that it's impossible to find the exact routing for the same fare without spending a night in HEL on your own expense.
