Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Click here to access that thread.

Please remember to:
  • Convert currencies to GBP, rounding to the nearest pound.
  • Post full routes and full booking classes.
  • Note any restrictions on booking in the Notes section.
  • List in order of price per tier point within the relevant departure area.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

So... I'm completely out of practice at this (not that I was great to begin with!). Any suggestions for a run at the back end of November (around 4 days starting 22nd)?

I've tried to put in the OTP-PHXs but don't seem to get anything interesting. I reckon I can swing about £1500-2k ish and would like to make gold again... Right now I'm silver with 50 points on the board (I know, I know!)

In complete honesty, the main drivers are:
1. My year end is 8/12
2. That happens to be my bday weekend and I find sitting in premium seats kinda fun!

You mean you have 50 TPs and want to make Gold by 8th December? If that's the case, I really would recommend going for those 1,450 TPs just after your TP reset date, which will give you Gold for two years rather than one.

Otherwise, I'm seeing OTP-PHX availability for 22 November, via LHR and BOS, for £1,500. But it's only 720 TPs.

Yep - year end is december 8th and I only have 50 points.

I guess I could delay for a couple of weeks but need to stay clear of Xmas. Would definitely hold off if I can net 1450 for my budget (crazy not to!)

But if your TP year end is 8th December, and you're now silver, you'll remain silver until 31st January 20. If you do the TP run after 8th December 19, and before end of January 20 you'll never be less than silver and once you hit gold you'll be gold until 31st January 22.

If you have only 50TP is gold going to offer you much, or do you have a lot of flying coming up.

BA Website

Why is it that sometimes when I do a flight search on the BA site I get a week tab list of the lowest fares (which is good) but sometimes I get a 'Choose your flights.prices will be displayed on the next page' screen, which is rubbish and really annoying!

Thanks

So the first lax flight full flat in C. And the other on 1a and k 747.. No surcharge for the guf and the first time for me to book into revenue class thru ba.
Should give 800tp and very much fun.
Hi, if tier points are important you need to check with BA. They no longer award tier points from the class you GUF to, but from the underlying class, so my fear is you may get 660, not the 800 you are expecting (just 140 for 2 first legs, not 210).

Yup. Duly noted. ^

Hoping for some further information about the possibility of sale fares for the Middle East-CMB-CGK runs...

EDIT: Well...THIS looks promising:

To Dougzz

Why would you gain Gold for two years when you've only hit 1500 once?

I've never heard of that before.

When you qualify for status, it's for the following year, but you also get it for the current year if you don't have it yet. So if you got 1500 TPs for the first time in the first 2 months of your collection year you would effectively have Gold status for 22 months (plus 2 "extra" months before the card expires) plus a soft landing to silver the following year.

The Plan

After reading the fare rules for the OTP-PHX fare, I think I'm going to use it to qualify for silver this year *and* next year.

On November 26th, I'll start OTP-LHR(BA)-AMS(BA)-LHR(BA)-EWR(BA)-PHX (440TP+my current stash) and and then do the return PHX-EWR-LHR(BA)-AMS(BA)-LHR(BA)-OTP(BA) (440TP+other travel) in July of next year. I'm prioritizing on getting my BA flights in over TP maximization.

Fare is £1492.

I'll use 22K+160USD avios positioning between OTP-DOH, and another 15K+10USD between BUR-PHX. Figure another $200 for hotels in Bucharest (I have family in Amsterdam...), and all in it's going to be about £1800 and leave me level on avios. The entire enterprise will net £2/TP. Not great, not terrible, but workable. Thoughts?

160 TP advice

Hi, I am looking for 160 TP. I am based in Manchester and one trip I have found is Dublin via LHr return. I presume this is 160TP. The cost is £400 so around £2.25 per TP. I wondered if this was a good price or if anyone had a better suggested route? Deadline is 6 November. Thanks.

I can see the above on Matrix for £379 with an overnight on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in October- it may be cheaper on BA.com

That will certainly get your tier points. You will find Amsterdam marginally cheaper in late October (I can see £325), but make sure you avoid terminal changes between LHR-LGW. Around the same price, you could go to Palma, Madrid, Barcelona, so it depends on why you want to go (other than earn the TPs). Do you want to spend a night there etc!

Hi all,

I have a number of flights booked between now and November that will get me to Silver and then just 440 TP away from Gold. My year ends on 08 Feb 2020, what runs should I be taking to make that happen?

Total newbie to all of this so apologies if that’s a stupid question! Thanks
