2019 POUG rate tracker

Please add your own successful results to the follow list including the month/year when the POUG was offered to you. Please delete any figures from 2018 or earlier if you have a 2019 price. Previous data lives on via post 2.

UPDATED TO: Post #9

POUGs are offered via BA.com and the App Manage My Booking via a distinctive banner (example from MMB below). You cannot get a POUG by telephoning, however the service centres can complete a POUG which falls over mid transaction. They are offered on cash and Avios redemptions but typically not on complex routings, BA Holidays or travel agency bookings until OLCI stage. POUGs on Avios redemptions won't get you additional TPs/Avios, but they will on revenue tickets.

POUG question

Flying long-haul this weekend in WT. One booking is for me, and a separate booking for someone travelling with me who returns on a different date. I am Gold, the other passenger has no BAEC membership: well, I just signed them up now to credit the Avios but they will be Blue.

I have linked the bookings to select seats etc.

My BAEC account shows no POUG to WTP at all. When I log into the booking for the other passenger, they are being offered a POUG to WTP at £349 which for this flight I would certainly take if I could get it for us both...

This is fairly common/normal, right? POUG offered selectively and not to Silver/Gold BAEC whom BA might prefer to pay cash for the premium seats (as I normally do for work travel)?

If I call up, any chance they might make me the same offer for WTP? Or should I just hold out for an upgrade for us both - I know this is also not normal practice or likely, but looking at the loads it doesn't seem mad to think they may need to roll some of us forward from Y. I know it's a guessing game; my guess being if they're trying to sell POUG at those prices they may end up having to upgrade a few people for free and we could stand a halfway reasonable chance...?

That is quite normal for BA. The poug comes from revenue management and only they decide to whom it goes and at what price. Calling is a complete waste of time as neither you nor the agent you speak to is permitted to speak to revenue management. All you can do is wait and see if you get an offer in the course of time.

OK thanks - I doubt I will get an offer, so will just keep fingers crossed that either we both get rolled forward for free or perhaps Avios availability in WTP is released for an upgrade of the original cash booking closer to departure (my experience is this is quite common 48-24 to departure; but also that when this happens it's a reasonable predictor of a free upgrade if you ignore the Avios one...)

Either way - it's WT on the upper deck duo seats of an A380 so could be a lot worse.

Grabbed a POUG LGW - PMI at £99 outbound and approximately £75 inbound for my wife and I.

I'm not able to select seats on the inbound as the seat map shows all the CE seats as taken. Any advice on how to go about ensuring we can be seated together? Should I be worried that this will be a case where we will end up being 'downgraded' out of the CE cabin if it's full?

Where are you off to? I wouldn’t spend £349 from a possible exit seat upstairs on A380 to WTP. Airport cash upgrades from Y-J can be from £500 so ask there perhaps

Smile LHR - DXB WTP to CW offer

Hi All,

I have just had this offer to upgrade from WTP to Club World for my flight in November.

Do you think this is worth it?

£561?

I paid £578 in total for return WTP LHR-DXB.

Thoughts?

How far away is the flight? I wouldn’t worry too much yet. Row 1 may be blocked rather than occupied, and the curtain could easily be moved. Apart from certain school holiday peak dates, PMI flights aren’t so likely to be full if it’s over winter.

Value, as always, is in the eye of the beholder. On this route it may also depend on whether day/night flight, normal CW or Club Suite. Looks like you already have priority boarding and lounge access from status.

In absolute terms, it’s in line with recent offers posted on the Wiki (maybe a bit lower if it is a CS flight), and if you were to double it and add your WTP fare, you’d come to a notional CW return price around GBP 1700. That’s a reasonable price ex-LHR, a couple of hundred below current best CW price. Only you can say if that’s good value for you.

It’s a relatively short flight. Around 6 to 7 hours? I personally wouldn’t take it but your PE fare is very good. £587 is very decent. I am flying London to Bahrain via Frankfurt with LH and I paid £540 for PE. They ask for £380 per leg to upgrade to C.

That’s the cheapest I’ve been offered so far.
It’s now £504.

LHR-LAX WT to WT+ £289. Nearly as much as I paid for next week's ticket in the first place

Can survive Y and use that for a nice 160TP run to HEL (or one of those 1-2 day jaunts around a few west or east coast airports from the TP run thread).

Possibly more interesting on the return, but as both flights are on a 747, less inclined to fork out more £. Probably zero chance of getting an upgrade to CW on the LAX-LHR leg as well.

Interestingly my LHR-JFK CW(S) upgrade offer has gone from £501 to £531 back to £501 around the same timeline as yours.
