2019 POUG rate tracker

Please add your own successful results to the follow list including the month/year when the POUG was offered to you. Please delete any figures from 2018 or earlier if you have a 2019 price. Previous data lives on via post 2.

UPDATED TO: Post #9

POUGs are offered via BA.com and the App Manage My Booking via a distinctive banner (example from MMB below). You cannot get a POUG by telephoning, however the service centres can complete a POUG which falls over mid transaction. They are offered on cash and Avios redemptions but typically not on complex routings, BA Holidays or travel agency bookings until OLCI stage. POUGs on Avios redemptions won't get you additional TPs/Avios, but they will on revenue tickets.

She said WT was overbooked and WT+ had 9 seats.

Maybe I’ll call back to upgrade
I would have thought unless your ticket is a relatively flexible one with no upgrade fee, you would be better off hoping that they have an AUP offer.

Overbooked doesnt necessary mean that. Some people will be no show some will cancel and possibly some will miss the flight due a late arrival from another flight. In my recent experience the check in agent told me that the flight was overbooked in Y by 10 people. After boarding i saw at least 4 empty seats in Y.

Just went to check the BA app, one hour ahead of check in opening for my flight tomorrow. My seat reservation had disappeared. I quickly clicked to find out why and turns out I’ve been upgraded to World Traveller+.

Was really holding out for a POUG too so I could pay to upgrade from World Traveller. But it’s all been done for some reason totally free of charge. Has anyone ever heard of this happening prior to check in even opening? Seems bizarre. But I’ll take it!

Yes, once from WT+ to CW coming back from JFK. Even a little message too:

See here: So - who got a free upgrade this week?

Upthread and in last year's thread there are examples of POUG prices decreasing (and increasing). It's partly market forces but there is some look at how revenue fares are moving. So for example if a cheaper fare bucket gets opened up, POUGs may get cheaper too. Also during Sales.

Not unusual at all. BA will keep selling tickets until they run out of seats (and still keep going in many cases), and not just the seats in the relevant cabin. Then nearer to departure they have to move some people forward otherwise they won't be able to sell seat reservation fees (etc). You now have the faint possibility of seeing a POUG to Club tomorrow, and the more likely chance of an Airport Upgrade on departure day, if that is of interest.

£159 LHR-HEL for me this week. With some CE fares being a little over £200 return at present, not really worth it.

(Appeared for one day and now back to "upgrade your flight" for over £600....and back to £159 the following day).

Does anybody have any first hand experience of a 787-8 being substituted with a 787-9? We (x1 silver and x2 bronze) have a booking in WTP to ICN: a route that sees 787-9 substitutions fairly often. How does BA manage the upgrades? Is it mainly by POUG and, if so, how far out can the allocated aircraft type be changed?
