BA Carrier Imposed Fees - Avios Redemption for CX Operated Flights
I have made two BA Avios redemption bookings: SFO-HKG and HKG-LHR.
Both flights were booked under CX flight numbers and are operated by CX. However, I have been charged £65.20 re: YR BA Carrier Imposed Fees on both redemption tickets. Why is BA charging these fees for flights that they are not operating? |

It is CX's carrier surcharge you are incurring. BA does not add carrier surcharge on.

You should be thrilled to only pay £65 in YR/YQ. You would pay multiple 100s on BA.

Thanks Karfa!
Interesting that CX has started to charge YR fees on BA redemptions. I did the same itinerary about 18 months ago and there were no YR fees. |

Just out of curiosity, was it easy to find direct CX reward tickets. Whenever I tried to look for CX reward tickets, I never could find any nonstop flights.
However, I'm booking these at least 6 months in advance. Also, there tends to be more availability in C (as F is only operating 1 out of 3 flights on these routes). |

Isn't it regulated by the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Authority? It's linked to the fuel price, and I seem to remember they recently allowed airlines operating out of HKG to charge a surcharge again.

that is roughly the same amount of fees that AA always charged for redemptions with Aadvantage miles as well--so suspect its been there for ages given my first CX redemption via Aadvantage was many years ago.
and yes, i am overjoyed anytime i can find a non BA flight given their INSANE fees. |
