Gift Flights / Open Ticket

Hoping for a little guidance. Id like to get my mum a couple surprise weekend trips to Jersey to visit her friend. However, searching the forums and google, I haven't seen an option for gift vouchers or anyway of purchasing dateless flights.

CE flight seem pretty stable @ £230, where ET vary from £60 - £90. Are there any options to purchase vouchers or flight credits apart from avios?

Not heard of gift vouchers but you can book them yourself when she tells you the dates.

As an interim present you could give her a couple of dummy tickets.

I'd second the idea of booking them once she's decided on dates.

If you search for "boarding pass template" on Google you should be able to rustle up some fake gift boarding passes.

American Airlines sells gift vouchers if you'd like to surprise your mom with a trip to New Jersey instead of Jersey...

Yes the flight pass by BA / Optiontown is still available and is probably the most flexible way the OP could get tickets as described.

This is a nice idea and potentially where BA could be missing out. I’m sure last year Virgin had a gift voucher scheme advertised.

A couple of of years ago I used my Avios for my parents to go to Rome Club Europe and got the duplicate e tickets in s ticket wallet and wrapped it in a shoebox along with a guidebook.

Open tickets used to be an option, but that was in a day when prices rarely changed. Now, you have no idea what a ticket might cost unless you know the exact date and flight.

Thus, the sham boarding pass or other note which then lets you book once she knows what she wants, is a great idea.

Carriers which issue gift cards wind up making a small fortune because nobody wants to leave their guest high and dry and thus there are often small amounts simply left on the card.
