787-8 G-ZBJE Any Update?

Does anyone know when BA are expecting G-ZBJE to return to service?.

It has been parked up at LHR since arriving from Madras on 7th of March.

Is this the one over by engineering without any engines?

Presumably when all of the engine problems are over? G-ZBJA also seems to be out of action at the moment (last flight seems to have been on 6 August 2018) although all of the 789s are now back in operation.

BJE is currently in TBJ (one of the hangers at the LHR Engineering base) getting prepped for a return to service and word is it will be going on a test flight with staff/engineers before revenue flights.

Probably a good idea after so long out of service

Probably a requirement for reactivation after being put into (presumably fairly deep) storage.

I would imagine so!

suspect that the LGW engineers involved with the recent MEDK maintenance will be buying cakes for a while so imagine the LHR crowd would want to avoid the same 😂

G-ZBJE's long holiday has even been remarked on in the (other) FT today.

Have to be a subscriber to see that. Can you give a quick summary?

Sorry - it really wasn't any more than remarking on what we've already discussed here:-

BA Dreamliner grounded for nearly a year because of engine issues

Several airlines hit by wear to components in Rolls-Royce’s Trent 1000

...

British Airways has been forced to ground one of its new 787 Dreamliner planes at Heathrow airport for nearly a year because of problems with Rolls-Royce engines, in a sign of how the issue is affecting the world’s airlines.

...

Two BA planes have been parked at Heathrow for more than six months. One of the 787s last flew in March 2018.

...

Industry analysts said the decision to park the aircraft was probably based on how best to optimise BA’s fleet.

According to BA Source it finally flew today

I can’t believe they chose to keep it at LHR for so long with the ground fees there, and space is already at a premium around that area (same goes for VS).

It has been interesting seeing the Dreamliners parked up around the world, Norwegian in particular have chosen a good variety of locations! It would of course be better to see them in the air...

Can I help you Mar 2, 2019 12:28 pm

Do they pay anything when they are parked in the hanger area?

From what I understand (and very happy to be proved wrong), BA owns / leases the ramp around the hangars, so no parking charges apply. Noticed a VS 787 with covers over where the engines should be, parked by the old green mile at T1 a couple of days ago, so I guess they would be paying charges for that. I sure someone has more accurate info though.
