Who’s baggage fees apply?

We ended up with an amazing fare (but HBO), but with multiple marketing/operating combos.

out bound:
- Iberia Marketed/BA Operated SEA-LHR connecting to :
- BA Marketed/BA Operated To DUB

and coming back:
- BA Marketed/AA operated AMS-PHL connecting to:
- AA Marketed/AA Operated domestic US

I’m curious who’s rules apply and who’s site we should be on to try and book luggage ahead of time to save.

fare difference was large enough that it’s worth it no matter luggage cost. (Saved 800 $USD a person for this booking style)

Thanks!

That sounds like a one-off on the fares side, usually Basic fares are discounted by around $100 to $200 area over standard tickets, it's certainly a good reminder to not automatically ignore Basic fares.

The key rules are found at the end of this thread (see table):
AA/BA/AY/IB Long Haul basic unbundled / HBO fares announced

You will be paying BA on the outbound, and AA on the inbound. Essentially the rules are in the table as to whether you actually get a free bag or not (on BA = not) and the operating airline charges the fee. The fee should be the same between all the JBA airlines, at least for the first bag, and would be $55 online $60 at the airport. That is each way but includes the shorter connecting hop to DUB.

If this is all on one e-ticket (not PNR or booking), US law provides that the base travel allowance of the marketing carrier of the first segment, applies to all segments of the same ticket. Thus, IB's allowance will apply to the entire ticket. If two tickets, then IB to the first ticket and BA to the second.

This rule applies only to the base allowance and not to any waivers for status and the like.

Within OW, the agent at baggage check will see the allowance pop up, even if marketed by a different carrier.
