8 seats blocked in WT+

Trying to estimate my chances of a W-to-J op-up on tonight's BA 192, ExpertFlyer is showing me something decidedly odd.

The flight is F7 J9 W5 Y8, but the WT+ seat map shows only 1 seat available, with 8 blocked seats distributed throughout the WT+ cabin. I can't come up with any reason for BA to block these seats.

Any ideas?

Gold card holders (neighbouring seat is blocked, load permitting) and bassinet seats are two possibilities.

Depending on the route and likely IRROPS, BA may also block seats to accomodate misconnecting pax as yet to be specifically identified.

Don't think it looks like theoretical seating. Only three of the five blocked seats have adjacent occupied seats.

Blocking inventory makes sense, but blocking seats?

Not yet. It was J9 W3 last I looked, so I'm not overly optimistic.

I did get offered an upgrade for $1190 at check-in. BA's pricing algorithm never ceases to amaze.

It’s BA blocking seats for passengers expected to check in but who have not yet selected a seat. Misconnections are one possible reason.

W3 J9 will almost guarantee some upgrades in the cabin, if business class is not selling and there is room to accommodate WTP oversells I’d guess they probably ran out of actual seats at E0.

if you are ows then the seat beside you will be blocked to anyone except golds

I suspect the original blocking is for families that BA is trying to sit together but have not checked in yet
