It seems like we have quite a few are taking advantage of the recent good price on OTP-PHX so I thought it might be a good idea to see if we could put together some ad-hoc meet-ups. I don't want to organise anything as it seems that we are all travelling on different dates and, in some cases different routes, but it would be a shame to be on the same flight or in the same lounge as another FTer, not know and not be able to share a beer and stories... if that is what you want. Of course, if you like to travel alone then that is great too.

So, if you want others to know about your travel plans and fancy saying hi to fellow FTers please post your details and I will add you to the wiki. If you have wiki update access then please, by all means, update the wiki yourself

I am posting my hotel arrangements but if you would rather not do that yourself but wish to post your flights then that is also perfectly fine.

For those that want to read about the Aug 2018 PHX mini-do (quite a few did it!) it is here : https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...ug-2018-a.html

There are some links at the end of the wiki to interesting things to do around Phoenix. Please feel free to add to this list if you wish

Note: Times are DEPARTURE times.

I'm considering an OPT-PHX run for July, does anyone have an itinerary they can share? I can price up easily on Google Flights but I'm struggling to get a decent TP maximising routing (using ITA matrix) and I am unsure if it is my lack of skills or a lack of availability.

12 - 14 July is E1681 on Google Flights.

My ideal routing would be via JFK > LAX > PHX

Thanks!

Have you checked the details of the fare code? The one I've got is ILX8C8S6 which, amongst many other rules, restricts the days you can fly TATL - for 12-14 July this may be the issue (maybe try extending the outbound and inbound by a day or two, and/or using Matrix option of "+/- 2 days" to see if that brings down the price:
FROM EUROPE - PERMITTED TUE/WED/THU ON EACH TRANSATLANTIC SECTOR.
TO EUROPE - PERMITTED MON/TUE/WED ON EACH TRANSATLANTIC SECTOR.

Thanks for the tip. It does price up fine with a few routes that Google throws up such as OTP > LHR > ORD > PHX but just not the route I want...

Good Luck to everyone!

As of today the OTP-PHX trips kick off in earnest and so I just want to wish everyone the very best of luck and hope there are few, or no, IRROPS for everyone.

I leave on Sunday with my first flight from NQY - LHR then I stay overnight at Premier Inn T4 before doing my positional flight LHR - OTP on Monday. I know I am in touch with those that I believe I will likely be able to meet on the way but if anyone else sees that you might be able to hook up with me for a glass of bubbly please let me know.

I am in Phoenix for 3 days... 17th - 20th

Very exciting!

The weather is going to be perfect those days and a great time to be outside in the sun. Hope you have a chance to tour around a little and see some of the sights. If you have a car, consider a day trip to Sedona.

From the Wiki, it looks like you've an early departure from PHX on the 20th - and I arrive on the afternoon of the 19th! If you fancy a beer somewhere on Friday evening post here or PM me?

I'm sure that there will be some other FTers around, but they haven't posted where they are staying.

Safe travels! Personally, I can't wait!

Hotel change

I have changed my hotel in Phoenix from North Phoenix to the HIE near the airport.

I really don't want to drive on my first day there (17th). I will not have slept at all the previous night as my flight into LAX arrives at 1am and the flight to PHX is at 6am so I will have dossed down at LAX in the terminal so probably won't sleep. Then on my day of departure (20th) my flight to LAX is at 6am so I will have to be up in the middle of the night so the free 24hr shuttle to the airport will be very handy.

I really don't know what made me book North Phoenix in the first place tbh!!!

So I am at the Holiday Inn Express (Phoenix Airport/University Drive) 17th -20th. It is walking distance from the HGI so meeting up with one or two people might be easier too.

We staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Phoenix Airport ( paid about $100 a night ) 18th-21st into PHX on the AA1587 arriving at the hotel bar about 8pm assuming it all goes to plan. Planning on dossing/dozing by the hotel pool most of the 19th before a meal out in the early evening. The 20th we will also be by the hotel pool in the morning before ubering to scottsdale old town mid afternoon. We leave on the 21st at 08:50 or route to JFK, the AA100 into LHR and the HEL shuffle.

Be great to meet for a beer or two if our paths cross.. All the best and safe travels

I'm staying at the same hotel, but arriving a day later on the same flight. Planning a beer with Snaxmuppet at some point on Friday evening.

I've only got one full day in town, Saturday the 20th, and am planning to try some BBQ (Little Miss BBQ) and/or pizza (Pizzeria Bianco).

I start my run tomorrow and overnighting at the Vienna House hotel OTP. Will be in the Hilton Garden Inn PHX, between 16th and 19th so will meet up with you then.

Have just updated my flight times and added hotel to Wiki.

Sadly it looks like I’ll miss most of you as I’ll be out of PHX during most of the dates listed in the wiki. I am around until the 19th this week though!

Looks like a number of us are there 17th - 21st so you might be able to hook up with some of us

A number of us are at the HGI or HIE near the airport around the 18th/19th.

After about three hours kip in the vienna hotel I made my weary way to OTP to start my adventure today. Unfortunately and despite the plane and all the passengers beings at the gate in plenty of time apparantly one of the flight crew ( rumours of the captian ) was sick.

Fast forward five hours and we are still waiting for a replacement crew member to arrive as cover. The latest news is we should be off about 14:40 some 7 hours late..

BA swapped my LHR-HEL to a later flight and if things pan out I should just make my connection into HEL later tonight for another short stopover arriving just 2 hours later than originally planned..

If not I guess I will stay overnight at LHR (assuming I do actually leave here) and see if i can get onto my original JFK flight tomorrow as was planned. Getting the ORC may or may not happen as I booked via AA - I dont know how that works.

I will also have a scan through the EU261 pages to see if we are entitled to put in a claim..

Any pointers will be gladly taken..
