It seems like we have quite a few are taking advantage of the recent good price on OTP-PHX so I thought it might be a good idea to see if we could put together some ad-hoc meet-ups. I don't want to organise anything as it seems that we are all travelling on different dates and, in some cases different routes, but it would be a shame to be on the same flight or in the same lounge as another FTer, not know and not be able to share a beer and stories... if that is what you want. Of course, if you like to travel alone then that is great too.

So, if you want others to know about your travel plans and fancy saying hi to fellow FTers please post your details and I will add you to the wiki. If you have wiki update access then please, by all means, update the wiki yourself

I am posting my hotel arrangements but if you would rather not do that yourself but wish to post your flights then that is also perfectly fine.

For those that want to read about the Aug 2018 PHX mini-do (quite a few did it!) it is here : https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...ug-2018-a.html

There are some links at the end of the wiki to interesting things to do around Phoenix. Please feel free to add to this list if you wish

Its relatively simple. Make sure you are near the front of the plane to get to security early in the line and take the transit gate to the right hand side...just make your way over there anyway if you are further back. The security person on the right will need to check your docs anyway and then let you though the gate.

There are two connection points depending on which gate you used. I think the one you describe is in a newer bit of the airport where the connection channel is at the far right of passport control - the entrance will be closed and either there will be someone there to check your onward bp and let you in or you need to attract the attention of an immigraiton officer to come and do that. Once through it's on to security and then back to airside arrivals,

The other connection point which I think is in an older part of the airport is where you go up the stairs and see the person immediately on your left who will check your bp. You will be sent back down the stairs and then go through security which is immediately on your right at the bottom of the stairs.

Add it in - I'll be travelling there in July too (1st-10th) and I recall the window for travelling in July was quite small, so our paths may cross!

For various reasons, I have ended up doing two runs in July. Just added to wiki.

Does anybody have recommendations for where to stay and things to see while there? I recall somebody at the Christmas do recommending not staying in Phoenix but going somewhere else but I cannot remember who it was.

Hi, we went last summer. Having spoken to some fellow FT beforehand we decided on staying in the Scotsdale area (Embassy Suites) which was well placed for day trips driving out to places around the Phoenix area like the Apache Trail, Flat Iron and down towards Tuscon. We then went to Sedona which is amazing , approx 2hrs north (a little cooler too) and the Grand Canyon South Rim (1 night). There's loads to see heading north if you have the time/inclination - this web site gives some ideas https://www.sedona.net/cliff-dwellings

Sedona

Montezuma Castle

Enjoy your trip(s)

I am staying at the Best Western North Phoenix. It isn't Scotsdale but it is close and to the north which is the side I think gives the best access to the best of activities.

(my bolding)

Seems the Y fell one row down, as I don't think you're starting a TP run in ET?

The positioning flights are in Y (cash) with an offer to upgrade for £129 each way. I lumped it all together for simplicity .and yes I did drop it on the wrong line.

That's a good price considering LHR-OTP is a SH+ route, 80 TP each way

I agree onobond but I don't need the tier points and with exit an seat both ways I can get a nice lunch for the plane, dinner and Hotel for the oneway price.

Sure, life is full of compromises. What you get for the same amount seems to outweigh the TPs.
