As I was leaving the lounge the same chap popped up and began performing again. My assumption is that he is paid by BA to play at certain times. It explains why he is half decent, although certainly no Hilda Woodward. (Teenagers....well you know don't you? )
I'm not a fan of the concept, I like my lounges on the quiet side, if I want to listen to the old ivories being tinkled I can pop a bit of Bobby Crush (see I can be classy when I want to be ) on my media player of choice and listen through my headphones.
I fear my ten hours in the CCR tomorrow might find me heading to and from the terrace to avoid the din. I will stay out on the terrace if I can lay claim to the only power point out there. *
*Any attempt to take this post seriously will be utterly wasted.

I just couldn't do that. I'm sitting in front of a piano often for long hours, so the last thing I want to do is sit down in some lounge and play, It's really irritating when non musical friends try to badger me into doing it. I actually think it would be ok if you played something like Clair de Lune, or the slow movement of a Beethoven sonata, or even something mellow that is non classical. But I am also very much up for peace and quiet in lounges. For the plonkers on mobile phone calls, I recommend the first few bars of the Boulez Piano Sonata played at full volume (it starts getting juicy around 4:40):

Time to derail my own thread and give some homework out. Required listening for this thread is:
Mouldy Old Dough by Lieutenant Pigeon*
Side Saddle, by Russ Conway
Mrs Mills Medley - Mrs Mills
Borsalino - Bobby Crush
It is, perhaps, a little early to introduce the fineries of Half Man Half Biscuit to these forums yet.
Today my plan is to make multiple requests for the Russ Conway back catalogue if piano man is performing in the CCR. I have ten hours to kill os may as well have some sport. I fear piano man will not live up to Russ Conway not least because he appeared to have all of his fingers intact.
*Yes that really is the frontman's mum playing piano if you get as far as the Top of the Pops performance on Youtube. #sigh# Simpler times!!

Yes, there is a particular gentleman who is paid to perform in CCR in the afternoons, engaged via a specialist agency which I think led to a somewhat gnomic post elsewhere in FT. I saw him there yesterday (Monday). He is classically trained and he is apparently well known in that particular music circuit. You can't hear the music much past the high tables, and it's fairly indistinct in the dining booths and board room. Past the bar and on the Terrace you won't hear anything at all. Since it acts as a cordon sanitaire for those lovely marching mobile telephonists I have nothing against this! He also does play tunes relevant to the flights taking off 90 minutes hence (so material from La La Land before the LAX departures). However this is probably more @Tobias-UK territory than me. And as KARFA points out there is some background in the CCR dining thread.
Only very occasionally does a guest use the piano in my experience, though a member of the RPO was having a whirl on the pseudo ivories last week, to impress his travelling companion.

......and of course the only free space with power now is right in front of the Piano. I have scoped it all out though and the pianist keys off at 15:00 - I'll be hiding in a cabana then!!
I have downloaded Piano for Dummies and will give it a quick "speed read" this arvo, it should place me well for a quick concert this evening after the odd dry martini or two. I feel a 20 minute Smoke on The Water coming on.
