Never mind. It appears to be ex UK only bookings and I was looking ex DUB. Actually, the flights are over €150 cheaper ex DUB than ex LHR even after the £100 is taken off for the dates I was looking at to NYC so not that great an offer for me

Answering my own problem here, seems to be because I had selected an AA flight, selecting only BA options gives the correct £100 option.

It will be - Y class will always be expensive, and is normally actually a fixed price. You want a discounted O or Q class to get these prices; N should only be a bit more. Always plenty of O available to the US in November though.

A good way to find the cheapest long haul prices is via the app. At the bottom of the home screen you'll find a set of offers, and a "show more" button. Next screen allows you to select geography and length of stay. Then you'll get a list of the cheapest fares and you can drill down into them to find out which months and then days they are available.
Great little tool that - there has been a little discussion of it in another recent thread. It's also great for finding avios redemptions.
Note that the cheapest fares are sometimes AA flights, for example Chicago, so you don't get the offer.

On the app once you've priced up the BA flight, there is a save £100 with Avios drop down and a single round button rather than the usual £10 off for 1000 miles options hit the button and the £100 is removed.
So a March LGW - JFK return I priced up came in at £188 and as silver the flight earned 5,193 miles, so I'd be positive even after usng the 5,000 avios redemption.

Get something completed before the end of the year and you'll get double base avios too. I'm quite tempted except that hotels in many of the cheaper destinations are very expensive. It's a very neat promo.

I think if you're careful, there are bargains to be had here, with such offers. I took advantage of an extra cash price to reduce the number of Avios needed back in July, and I figured it was a good deal (anything exceeding 1,000 for GBP10 is a fair deal, I think). So I saved 4,000 Avios (I don't have a huge amount, just enough for what I think is the best deal, European RFS) by paying a bit less than GBP40.

Absolutely not, you get the avios refunded to your account and then the cash element to your method of payment.. I know this for a fact
