He'll need an IB account over 90 days old though, or they can't be transferred.

i would only say ... get the free BA Amex and use for your routine spend as much as you can. At 1 Avios/Ł spend you might be surprised how quickly that adds up.

(Annoyed the Dentist today didn't take Amex, due to their fees for users)

50 % bonus Avios promotion running from today until 22nd of October. It’s 50% no matter the amount. Seems better than recent deals and gives a price of around 1,1p even for smaller amounts, which is similar to the Iberia Groupon, but without all the hassle and waiting.

UK accounts only. My parents living in Scandinavia doesn’t have it either.
No link is needed, just the standard purchase site.

Just for the record really since I've had the usual email. There is an Avios purchase offer on, an extra 50% is the headline offer, which expires on 30 September. Typically these offers will not apply in all locations but this seems to apply to UK and Ireland at least.

Again for the record, some prices:
1,000 Avios plus 500 extra = GBP 31 for 1,500
10,000 Avios plus 5,000 extra = GBP 175 for 15,000
200,000 Avios plus 100,000 extra = GBP 3,215 for 300,000 (maximum purchase).

For those new to the forum, and at the risk of going full-on HFP, the consensus is, I think, that buying Avios isn't usually a good idea, sometimes it can be cheaper, if more complex to do via Iberia (and of course all regular Avios users in this forum will have an Iberia account on standby, unlike BA Iberia's Avios scheme isn't fully operational to new joiners initially). This isn't a stunning deal. But the exceptions will be (a) if you need a few extra to make a particular larger redemption; (b) you want a hassle-free way to extent the life of your Avios, though using the e-store to buy a pack of camomile tea from Holland and Barrett is going to be cheaper (c) for a small number of destinations where BA has a near monopoly, so fares per mile and ticket restrictions are high but Avios zonal system makes it better to buy Avios than commercial fares. Ski half-term weekends and tropical island resorts fall into this group at least some of the time.

OT: They should check their merchant agreement. AMEX lowered their fees in early 2018 to closer match VISA and MasterCard. Many retailers still refuse to take AMEX more out of habit, than actual cost.
