Got LHR-LAX on 14 April, currently still on the A380. Anyone know when the season switches?

Indeed daily.

British Airways in summer 2019 season is increasing Airbus A380 service on London Heathrow – Boston route, reflected in yesterday’s schedule update. From 31MAR19, the A380 aircraft is scheduled to operate 7 weekly, instead of 3. The following is A380 operational schedule.

BA213 LHR1115 – 1335BOS 388 D
BA212 BOS1915 – 0650+1LHR 388 D

BA overall operates this route 4 times a day. Separately, yesterday’s schedule update also sees the return of A380 service on London Heathrow – Chicago O’Hare route for the second consecutive summer season, starting 31MAR19.

I have an F leg LAX in the middle of December thankfully still showing on the A380. Really hoping this isn’t switched to a 747 that would be a downgrade for me.

I had an equipment change from 744 to 388 next July on the late ORD. Moved to a crappy seat but cabin wide open so easily remedied.

LAX Aircraft Downgrades

I’ve just noticed that BA268, usually operated by the A380, has been “downgraded” to a 747 from late-April 2019. This will remove all A380 service from the Red Carpet Route, which previously had 2 A380 flights daily.

This just happened over the past few weeks, as I’ve been monitoring July 2019 reward spaces daily, and BA268 A380 J reward seats have been plenty (and I actively avoid them).

I’m surprised BA is cutting capacity to LAX. The three daily flights will become 747, 789, and 747. Is it no longer as successful of a route for BA? Where will the A380 go?

Firstly, the A380 remains on Sunday, Monday and Fridays. Secondly, AA goes from B772/B77W to 2x B77W on their flights, so it's not such a big change overall (particularly compared to when they ran with just 2 flights a day for years without the extra B789 in the middle).

It still begs the question, where is all that A380 capacity going? FWIW, my bookings on two Saturdays in August are showing A380 on the 269/268.

Is this just BA moving the A380's around to gather sales and operating data to formulate a plan of whether to order more aircraft or not?

The 744s to LAX are the HiJ so even with three aircraft there's still less bums on seats on these days; 744 789 744 = 766 seats vs 938 on 2 x A380

my flight from LAX to LHR just before Christmas will be operated by a mid J 747 barring an unforeseen change of equipment. At best, I’m hoping for a recent.refurb to avoid the pitiful IFE

For August 2019 my LAX-LHR booking is also showing a 744, which I'm actually a bit bummed about.

The LHR-LAX return is showing a 787.
