I would say it depends on what you want to do, if you have the cash then try for a reservation at Restaurant Gron for michelin Nordic cuisine. Weekend brunch is also a big thing here, there are lots of places but for a tourist Ravintola Sunn might tick the boxes as it overlooks Senate Square and cathedral. I also like the Sori taproom, they are a craft brewer though brew in Estonia as its cheaper. Coffee and pulla (sweet buns) is a big thing in Finland, though finding good coffee can be a bit of a mission. That said, if you can get out to Cafe Regatta (which is near the Sibelius monument) then you can do coffee and pulla next to one of the Baltic sea inlets.
Use the trams to get about, and the Moovit app is good for working out which one you need if not in walking distance.
Just as a note, even though you're coming at the end of April, the Finnish weather has a thing called takatalvi which can rudely translate into winter coming back to kick you up the backside as snow at this time of the year is not unknown!

Currently in the Almost@Home lounge in HEL. If @SkiSunday, @TheFlyingCyclist or @ceej123 are around, let me know and I'll come to say hello.
This lounge isn't great to be honest - but it's a temporary fix. Limited food selection, not great choice of wines, and a medicore cava. Spirits are not complimentary. The new finished lounge will he revamped, refurbished, larger, nicer and more comfortable.
On another note - thank you for all your recommendations for Helsinki. Would thoroughly recommend the city for a visit if you can extend your TP run. It's small enough to walk around and easy enough to explore for a day.
I'd really recommend:
- Helsinki Cathedral
- Suomenlinna / Sveaborg Island - a 10 minute ferry ride away, but great to get off the beaten track and discover a different side to the capital. You can walk round the island in a couple of hours. The seascapes were fantastic. It's an 18th century sea fortress with old artillery, defensive walls and ramparts. For me, a Game of Thrones fan, it was was the Wall beyond which the White Walkers lay, and l could imagine soldiers defending the King's Gate from the battlements....
- Temppeliaukio Church - a Lutheran church directly built into solid rock
- saunas - a quintessential Finnish experience - I really enjoyed it, and even though not being sure of the etiquette, the Finns I met were very friendly and helpful in explaining things.
Also thanks to @TWCLAM for the excellent recommendation of Trillby & Chadwick - it's a fantastic, atmospheric secret speakeasy bar. Loved the theme (Victorian/fin de siècle detective agency), excellent signature cocktails and a real secret find. Even many local Helsinkers don't know ahout it.
I'd also recommend the Hilton if you're staying at the airport.
Thanks

*waves* I’m here - over by the TV watching the ski jumping with a beer. You’re right it’s not the best, but to be fair the Finnair one is pretty poor at the moment as it’s crowded, has paper plates and no real food. Roll on the refurb...

The Finnair Schengen lounge by gate 22 was fine, nice but limited selection of food, plenty of spare seats and no trouble getting in. Use the electronic entry gate to scan your boarding pass as I did see the lounge dragon turning some people away.

Glad you enjoyed the bar we found it similarly fun & were very thankful to the young ladies who told us about it.
Helsinki is a great place and looking forward to a return visit. The trip out to the island is indeed worth it as well

For those of you who booked the airport Hilton on a cancelable rate, its worth checking Hilton.com, they have launched a sale today
I'm looking forward to my brief visit to Helsinki on the weekend

Sorry if this has been asked & answered before, but I couldn't find it in the thread if it has...
Is it possible to do BA0794 & BA0799 on the same day?
LHR->HEL 0794 13:50->18:45
HEL->LHR 0799 19:35->20:40 (often delayed by 30+ mins)
I understand arrivals & departures are in the same building, but 50 mins seems tight to me if there are no delays
