Is it possible to do BA0794 & BA0799 on the same day?

LHR->HEL 0794 13:50->18:45
HEL->LHR 0799 19:35->20:40 (often delayed by 30+ mins)

I understand arrivals & departures are in the same building, but 50 mins seems tight to me if there are no delays
Welcome to FT!

50 mins is not tight at all at HEL. There is no security/immigration/bp check and you are just staying within the non-schengen area. MCT would be 35 mins. BA.com won't let you book the b2b as a return but if you call to book they should be able to do it.

More information in this thread Immediate turnaround in HEL

Thank you and Goodnight,

After only 1 year of flying this route I am having to change airlines, unfortunately because of the change in schedule from BA it's almost impossible for me to get a return from EDI > HEL via LHR without an over night stay in London which is not an option for me not just that they have also increased the price by almost 4x.

its been a pleasure getting to know you guys and best of luck to you all.

I am starting at the bottom of the new program but I am lucky enough to Lounge access at AMS & CDG because of the industry I am in which is a little bonus I suppose.

Cheers,

Colnic2011.

Cheers to you, too !

Although there seems to be a multifacetted situation for you, the basic critique you address is the reduction of the number of daily BA flights to HEL. I also have difficulties understanding why BA "sells out" a profitable route, often having 7-12, occasionally more, rows of CE. Especially as the compensation is AY increasing their flights to 6-7 daily, and also a minimum of 2 of these flights being LH aircraft with lie-flat Business seats (A350 and A330).

Airport hotel prices is even more of a mystery for me. A good LHR large-chain hotel charging 55-68 for a weekend room 3 years ago, is now charging 90-120. In LAX my favvo hotel used to charge $78-90 for a Fri/Sat/Sun stay, also some 3 years back, is now $156-188. The post-tax salaries of most leisure travelers have, however, not followed suite.

Just left a capital, where Luxury hotels are still a bargain, KUL, I'm now in BKK, where the same category of hotels are just (!) very price worthy (slight understatement)

Good luck in flying Blue!

First Tier Point Run

Just started my first proper Tier Point Run (well, and a bit of a break too). So enjoying the tranquility of the CX Business Lounge at LHR T3. Extremely civilised.

Has anyone flown ex-HEL in the last month? Do you know what the lounge situation is for BA flights, given the Finnair Platinum Wing seems delayed again? Is BA still using Almost @ Home, and is there a shower there?

I have a longish layover in a week or so, before the 14:10 flight, travelling in Club. My travelling companion is booked on the AY departure around the same time. We're both Gold, so were looking forward to showers in the Plat Wing. That doesn't look feasible, and it would a pain if we couldn't even use the same lounge together, although I'm hoping to get into AY business lounge on the basis it's off peak hours, but who knows...

When I flew from HEL in Jan, I used both the AY lounge and Almost@Home. Owing to the refurb AY lounge had no shower, but I used the single shower at the Almost@Home lounge which was pleasant.

If you have a longish layover you can always use the Schengen zone AY lounge near gate 22 which has showers and both you and your companion can use. Just add 10mins onto the time you need to get to your gate to make it back up the terminal and through the auto-passport gates.

First TP Run to HEL

Just done my first proper TP Run LHR-HEL (maybe not a proper one as it was 2 nights!)

Thanks to loads of great advice on BAEC Forum and this thread especially I had a great trip.

What I learned:
CX lounge almost deserted for breakfast
HEL is good airport but long walks
Finnish is an unintelligible language, but everyone speaks English
HEL is an immensely doable city in a couple of days, but worth a return trip
A one day travel pass for 8 is great value - busses, trams and tube
Its worth spending 5 on a bike pass. Makes nipping round a dream
Grn Restaurant is fantastic, especially if youre a budding cook and ask for the chefs table.
A CE C/I boarding pass gets you through premium security although BA not listed as possible airlines
AY lounge at gate 22 is light and airy and pleasant
AY lounge at gate 50 (past passport control) is unpleasant

Thanks for everyones help and advice. Looking forward to next trip!

A couple of weeks ago I was actively referred to the AY business lounge and in the lounge they told me it is because of the new schedule with the departure time (14:10) not being rush hour at the AY lounge.

OT:

Very simplified: Finnish (and Estonian) belong to the Uralic language family and are thus not akin to any other language known "in Europe" (Indo-European). Hungarian is Uralic, too. Of course there are loanwords but the whole grammar and structure is different as you might have noticed. Most people are unaware of this and assume all languages in Europe are Indo-European.

You can see all Uralic languages on the following map:

Thanks for the replies. Answering my own question, the Finnair lounge is back in the game for BA799, and not particularly busy at that time of day (in case anyone is interested, it is also used for the late night Qatar flight; not sure about the morning/afternoon Qatar flights which coincide with the AY peaks; JAL is still turned away). The lounge is still very much WIP, with various things not working/out of order, but otherwise perfectly pleasant in a Scandi chic way (think OSL/ARN). Plat Wing likely to be some time, judging by the extensive hoardings, although not an issue in terms of crowding for BA pax

Didn't try to get into Almost @ Home, so not sure if they still give BA entry. The Schengen AY lounge is busier, but larger/brighter/lighter with excellent tarmac views. The 2 showers didn't look the most salubrious though, so I gave them a pass...

Thanks for the update as we will be on the 799 on Sunday. Last time we were turned away from the Finnair lounge and used the @home lounge which was awful and we had to stand as there were no seats.

The almost@home lounge is the default lounge for BA at HEL, so yes you still get entry on BA.
