We all have different thresholds. The fact that you feel welcome doesn’t mean that I would.

Regardless, their legislation is enough to put me off, regardless of whether it makes any difference in real life or not.

Nice. Thoroughly enjoyable at almost anytime of the year. Easy (and cheap) day trip to Monaco if that floats your boat.

Los Angeles.

Beaches, swimming pools, movie stars.

Jersey is of course outside (of) the UK. Great beaches, benign climate, minimal language/currency issues. Not a lot of TPs though.

Late May/June is probably not the best period to visit our beaches, due to "June gloom" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_Gloom

Always feel bad for tourists staying close to beaches during May/June.

So, we all suggest something, based on avoiding a defined set of criteria, and these get a 'Nah' too. This thread is like being married.

Funchal.

I like the idea of Funchal, together with some other interesting suggestions upthread! I will have a look at flight times and prices later.

What about Marrakech? Quick flight, nice weather, good food? We did a weekend break there last December and really enjoyed it. Stayed in a Riad in the middle of town. Actually booked the hotel/flight as a package through BA and got a really good deal.

Why don't you look at the BA route map and decide? Much better than asking random strangers for their idea.

I know all about June Gloom. I love it. Puts off the blazing heat a few more weeks.

Surely Cape Town is the ultimate long haul destination for a weekend break? No time difference and perfect flight times.

A couple of Caribbean islands are perfectly doable long-weekend destinations (Barbados, Antigua, etc.). With the time difference, you'll still have half of Saturday, and then Sunday and Monday, before taking a red-eye back. Often decently priced as WT out, CW on the way back (when you need it).

Banff/Lake Louise in Canada is another idea. With a 6pm LHR departure on Friday, you get to YYC at 8pm.
