Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

LHR-HAM Lunch Band 1

Had the choice between the beetroot and goats cheese salad or beef salad. I did not pick wisely - the beetroot salad and I thought it was pretty tasteless and the quinoa surprisingly difficult to keep on the plate!! I thought I had taken a picture of it but it appears not - FAIL! I blame meeting 2 x FTers in the CCR earlier!

LGW band 1 afternoon tea (to CGN)

This is much better than it used to be. Had eaten in the lounge so didn’t mind that it is small, this might be more of an issue flying into LGW from somewhere without lounge access or with limited food in the lounge. Each of the little sandwichs tastes good (smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel; egg, tomato and spinach wrap; roast beef and onion sandwich).

Also met a FT lurker so hi if you are reading

Same as I had on lunchtime BCN-LHR not too long ago. Very good for an LBA-LHR but I still think these mid-length flights could do with a hot option...

Band 1 lunch

As noted by Beaulieu in post 523, same salad as yesterday for my LBA flight but different starter. Also champagne was a mixture of pommery and castleneau.

Hi all,
Off to Athens in a few weeks in CE - outbound flight will be breakfast. I have to confess that I don't like bacon, and usually find airline egg dishes to be pretty inedible. Is the vegan breakfast on this flight likely to be the lentil curry I've seen mentioned /pictured on this thread? It looks much more up my street than a fry up so tempted to go for it but wasn't sure if that was what was on offer on this flight.

With the new catering the cheese omelette (vegetarian breakfast) really is one of the very best egg dishes I have ever had on an aircraft and I would highly recommend it. The other vegetarian rotation I have seen in past weeks is the Frittata, which is also good but not as good as the omelette.

The rotations are maddeningly difficult to work out, so it's difficult to work out other than to ask the crew before serving, but yes that omelette is very good, I think it has a fairly generous cheese filling and the cheese is well flavoured (Cheddar).

Well lucky for you then that I took one on LHR-DUB last week! I found it tasty enough, but I agree that it was definitely too hard to keep on the plate (or indeed shovel into my mouth with any dignity!).

Be careful.... Our customers told is there was too much cheese in the cheese omelette so it has been enhanced and the cheese reduced by 90%.

Quite, I think the caterers haven't quite given this aspect of the dish enough thought.

A choice of chicken salad or feta salad. I opted for the chicken, with a starter of salmon on potato wedges in a (possibly) peppery dressing and some crisp spring onions. Strangely, the potato, dressing and spring onion from the starter made a second appearance on the chicken dish, with the addition of some lettuce, olives and a cherry tomato. Dessert was an apple and blackberry crumble, served in a genuine glass dish. I thought this was a little bland.

New coffee mug, but the Union Coffee has not apparently made it to LGW yet.

Overall, a step up from the last incarnation of CE catering to and from LGW with a decent-size piece of chicken that was definitely sufficient for a short evening hop, with a little bit of pasta and some soup a couple of hours earlier in the lounge in AMS.
Just had this meal twice in 4 days on evening flight comming into Gatwick, in both cases the only option. Once for Edinburgh and the other from Vienna. WHO DECIDED THAT A POTATO SALAD BASED MAIN WOULD BE GOOD FOLLOWING A POTATO SALAD BASED STARTER??? Have BA over ordered the potato salad and need to shift it?

I did a few CE TP run flights over the weekend and, although I thought that the feta & lentil salad was nice, I had the same problem with it - I think I used the spoon...

When I get organised, I'll post some pics - just UK & DUB flights.
