Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

It's a cottage cheese dip starter, but's just about the only thing in the new menu series that I dislike. The cottage cheese has very little flavour and the dip items don't really work with it.

i have had that cottage cheese starter a few times over the last week. I agree, not a favourite of mine either. it seems oddly bland.

BA676 LHR-IST Sat 16 Nov

Breakfast: hot frittata. Verdict, tasty and comforting. Portion size: reasonably good.

Other options included a full English breakfast or continental breakfast

Forensic view

Moving on to today's inbound BA675.

It remains an outlier because this fight departs IST at 10:00 yet still receives a breakfast and its a return catered breakfast so the entire offering is presented on one small tray. As you can see the main dish is conspicuously modest - there is a small mature cheddar free range omelette, one cherry tomato, a 4cm dia potato rösti. Tucked into the omelette was one button mushroom sliced in two. What got my goat was the portion size (obviously) and moreover the fact that the small dish was not fully utilised

Forensic view

The other option was a traditional mixed grill of veal sausage, scrambled free range eggs, grilled tomato and sautéed mushrooms. There was no continental alternative on this occasion

Sorry there are no pictures of my tray, glasses of drinks or anything else. I consider food photography as special art and one that most have not mastered. I cannot believe that I have actually managed to post this!
I'm not sure my food photography would ever be classed as "art", but here's a picture of the macaroni dish anyway - which I agree was far from unpleasant. However, regretfully I have to disagree that the dessert was delightful, I found it lumpy and strange and only managed a mouthful!

AGP-LGW (Band 3), November 2018 - rest of day offering
Another world-class piece of photography from me! I had ordered a SPML so I'm afraid I can't provide any bad photos of any of these dishes.

It did seem as though a lot more people were ordering the risotto than would normally order the vegetarian option.

You had both yogurt and a pot of berries/fruit on the tray. I had the same breakfast on a band 3 inbound flight. The menu said either yogurt or fruit and the crew also placed only one item on the tray. Asking politely one received both. Was it like this when the new style was started?

BA862 LHR - BUD last Saturday... the chicken was actually pretty good. In fact both myself and my wife commented that it was a pretty good standard considering it is flying food. The champers was also delicious and the crew kept topping up my glass so what could I do... I didn't want to disappoint them and force them to pour it down the sink so I had to drink several glasses!!!

PS @KARFA I used your pics of the menu. I hope you don't mind. I forgot to take a pic myself.

I had the same as a Band 2 (MXP-LHR) lunch, except the starter was a chicken salad, which wasn't bad, although obviously wouldn't be good if one was ordering the goat's cheese because one was a vegetarian. The antipasti plate looked better than the previous iterations served on this route.

PS, adding photos. Presentation is quite consistent.

Boys,

Thank you for your pretty pictures (if one particular soul showed a decided lack of modesty (JustthOne )

Now what none of you have mentioned is that on the LGW rotations they are now adding Cornish Butter in a rather charming packaging. Since Him Indoors is a Bread and Butter Gourmet - he is dead chuffed. Before anyone says, his cholesterol is checked regularly. In France where Hypochondria is a national pastime, the Doc will pack you off for blood testing at the drop of a stethoscop.

This has nothing to do with meal trays, but I have long thought that they really ought to offer Flora or something similar as an alternative - this does not apply solely to BA,

That would explain it - rather odd compared to the other stuff!
