Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

Drinks offered after the tray was served. No further mention of drinks after I had my Pommery and bottle of red. The attitude seems increasingly to be that you have to demand things, rather than their being served as part of a cohesive, customer-focused programme.

Sorry to disagree, but on my last 6 CE sectors the opposite seems to have happened, and the crews are being far more proactive. I would compare that to the same time last year, when my experience would be much more similar to yours. Crews do vary of course, but I'd say 6 sectors in a row all the same would indicate (hopefully) the sings of a positive trend.

I do hope you're right and I'm wrong! I still feel that inconsistency is a big part of the problem. I had an excellent MAN-LHR in CE recently, older cabin crew, I was addressed by name and the whole thing - surprisingly for such a short flight - was unhurried, under control and focused on the PAX. I even had time for a second bottle of Castelnau!

Just stepped off the 14.20 LHR - Vienna in CE. No menus handed out and the lunch choice (told to us by the CSM) was afternoon tea or ploughman’s. I asked the CSM why there was no menu and she said they don’t do them other than on “longer flights like Rome” (I think Vienna might be longer -not sure) and I responded that I thought this was a Band 3 flight and that in any event I thought menus were given out. She insisted no menus are given out for this band of flight. Is all of this correct?

Lunch was cold and frankly not acceptable. It was insulting that the crew then served themselves hot food. We were really looking forward to this flight (my partner is not an avgeek like me and I bigged up the experience - mistake!) and although I read this forum and know the standards are inconsistent, I didn’t expect it to happen to us given we fly only 4 or 5 times a year (I thought the chances were low). The only saving grace was the wonderful Cathay lounge at T3.

All of this said, have I got the service standards wrong?

Similar story on my KBP-LHR-KBP flights. No menus, and the CSM on one flight said that menus were only given on longhaul, while the CSM on the other one did look and found them after I asked.

I can't comment on service but Vienna is a Band 2 so the Crew were correct that there wasn't any menus. The menus are Bands 3 & 4 only. Rome is indeed a Band 3 so there would be menus on that flight.

You should have had menus on both KBP flights as they are Band 4. However, Wapps68's flight to Vienna is only a Band 2 so there was, correctly, no menus loaded.

Fair enough - my bad for thinking otherwise. Subjectively, the experience felt pretty lame nevertheless.

As I frequently say, despite the recent noticeable catering improvements, the CE proposition is a waste of money/Avois. Best to sit in an emergency exit seat in Y, with better leg-stretch room than the majority of CE seats (1C/1D excepted).

Technically yes - if your Band 2 flight was scheduled to depart at 14:10, you were being served afternoon tea, not lunch.

Understood. It was my error in thinking it was Band 3.

As as I said, the Cathay lounge really made up for it. The Dan Dan Mian and Moet (I had plenty) really were fantastic. And the crew were lovely - no complaints on the actual service.

LHR-BUD Dinner

This was the sausages and gnocchi from the menu! Both were very tasty and a great improvement.
