Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

Sorry for my stupidity. Also Corrected in my post. ^

All the (other) info is correct though. (Including the fact there were no menus, although intended I now realize. )

Express dinner

Again managed to take photo before warm bread appeared. Interestingly the bread from LGW doesn't seem as good as the LHR bread.

Although JER is an Express destination, I think the service is identical to Band 1?

i initially put band 1, then after checking post 1 of the thread noted it is an express destination. do they still get the cooked breakfast for JER? i guess i will find out on sunday but that would suggest band 1 if so.

LIS-LHR (Band 3?) 18:45 BST 12th October.

The flight was on the newest A320 Neo in the fleet (G-TTNE, the newest plane in the fleet of any type having been handed over just 15 days previously), although when I commented on this at boarding the crew commented that it was indeed new, but they were doing their best to make it work regardless — the implication being the Neos not being crew-friendly.

There was an initial drinks run, but no menus were handed out. The choice of main was prawn, spinach and rice; penne pasta; or mediterranean salad (i.e. one fish and two veggie).

For the meal service, the trolley came down with the trays. The cutlery and napkin were wrapped inside a glass, but by the time the tray reached my table the glass had disappeared, so I re-used the glass I’d had some Castelnau in from the drinks run for the red wine I had with the meal (as a minor nit, we were asked what we wanted to drink for the main before we'd been told what the choices of main were).

The mains were served later than the tray delivery, so there’s no photo with a full tray as I wanted to eat the bread roll whilst it was still warm!

I haven’t yet seen any pictures of the prawn main other than the somewhat idealised publicity photo at the start of the thread, apologies if I've missed one, so here’s a snap.

Apologies for the shadow, 1A had their seat down most of the journey.

I seem to recall that JER is an express in word only but in all practical terms it's essentially a band one. Under the old regime it had a full cooked breakfast as opposed to the (quite nice) bacon roll on LBA/MAN...

It's definitely Band 1, JER appeared in some early internal BA documentation as Express, but revised documentation put in the same as AMS/EDI/GLA. The reason being that it would cause more trouble than it's worth (in terms of what JER has been used to), and takes out a logistical complicating factor for just one route for LGW. JER has a more generous crewing ratio as a result.

I think we can all agree annoying @uncleT ( & AuntieT) with an express menu would be a bloody stupid idea and even the BA cost cutters are aware of this fact ( to clarify my point is made with nothing but <3 towards the pair).

I'm still overjoyed to see that LGW has gotten the new food in a timely fashion this time around and made a very big point of emphasising us LGW fliers thanks when I met with my nameless, reasonably senior, friend from IAG last week.( Bad) Luck would have it I had my last flight on BA PUJ-LGW the day of the new food service taking affect, 12-09( yes im aware its LH lol) & wont get to sample the new CE until 06-11 when I take my Silver flight LGW-RAK.

I've enjoyed seeing all the great posts and that LGW having the new menus isn't a fluke but a real tangible thing. The only problems I see are DHL not loading properly ( One presumes nobody at BA is aware of 'KFC-Gate' )and the menus only being Band 3-4 which whilst I appreciate is probably good for the planet must surely add to CC's workload having to explain dishes to pax when they should be concentrating on getting the food out ( BA's fault not the CC obvs)

But the Gatwick butter is much better - I think it’s the same one as used on CW? Compare with the LHR butter in post 335.

If you’re lucky! We never received menus to or from Istanbul. The flight back also didn’t have any Highlife or Business Life on the whole aircraft.

Band 4

Three mains were on offer, though the chilled chicken salad that was on the menu was substituted with a carrot and bulgur salad for reasons that baffled the cabin crew. I had the prawns in marinara sauce, which were decent but nothing to write home about. The spinach was overly salted and three small sized prawns for a long Band 4 meal was a meager portion. Fortunately for me, many passengers declined the meal, so the purser happily brought me a second serving after she served al the rows. My partner had the pasta with artichokes and tomatoes and enjoyed it. The bread was warm and very tasty, but the starter of hummus with crudités looked like it was from the lunch case at a Tesco Express. Remember a month ago when Band 4 flights had starters like smoked salmon or beet salads? The cheese with onion chutney was great and the little pot of chocolate mousse was nice. Overall this was a decent meal but the downgrade from the old Band 4 service is so evident. The cabin crew was absolutely superb.

NCL-LHR-HEL
12/10/18

Had two wonderful flights in CE yesterday with crews who couldn’t do enough, a rare treat for me so maybe I am easily pleased?
They were all spot on. Thoroughly enjoyed testing out the CX and QF lounges during my connection at T3, having only been in Galls at T5 so far it made a nice change.

Rest of the day meal on the BA1325 NCL-LHR yesterday. Bread lovely and warm and chicken salad was actually lovely. Chocolate mousse dessert the highlight for me!

I didn’t have a meal on the connecting 798 LHR-HEL as I’d eaten in the lounge but this was the menu.

This is the 'Express' VLML breakfast on MAN-LHR. The fruit was delicious, very firm and fresh with big chunks of melon, and the yoghurt was absolutely delicious. Bread was offered but declined!
