Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

They also used to break up rather easily, especially when soggy, so I usually ended up not using it as a cracker but as a crumble.

This seems to be a new item that hasn't had a photograph yet. This is the night stop breakfast, so the one on the smaller tray. This is mushroom omelette with rösti.

Was this taken on Tuesday 2nd October? I was in 1F on the 06:05 on Tuesday - were you anywhere near me?

Yes they are in order to be able to pack them into fewer chiller boxes thanks to the reduction in galley space due to densification. (Also why the trays are smaller - uses less trolley space)

Yes I was in 1C, more in body than in spirit, given the hour.

Band 1 Afternoon tea - ploughman's - rotation 2
LHR-NCL BA1334 scheduled to depart 14:20 (but actually left over an hour late)

The only reason for putting this one online is to show the different dessert on rotation 2. I didn't see the official description but my guess would be something like blackcurrant mousse sundae. Rotation 1 had a small slice of Dundee cake. There were changes to the sandwiches option - in terms of sandwich content rather than style. So this seems to suggest that for breakfast, afternoon tea and possibly brunch combinations, the main dish stays the same for B1 / B2, but there are changes to the side items. Plus the exact omelette option for breakfasts will change between rotations.

Prospero and Genius1 like this.

Band 2 Afternoon Tea

Cheese Ploughman's after a 'few bites'

LGW-OPO

First time taking Club Europe flight from Gatwick so not really got much to compare this with, but I picked the ploughman's (other option was a selection of sandwiches). Quality was definitely lower than what I have previously received travelling from LHR. It was described as a 'Cheese Ploughman's' although the only cheese I could taste was cheddar. Also felt like a small portion, after an hour delay in the lounge and then another hour at the gate/on board was very hungry (hence the picture). There wasn't a lot of flouvour in anything (except the mini cakes & scone).

service was quite slow (or at least it felt like it after waiting 45 mins on the tarmac due to a ATC backlog due to earlier fog. Seemed to be a training flight (confirmed by the CSM later in the flight) with 6 cabin crew on the plane. 4 were working in ET and 2 in CE. Food and drink were run at same time and seemed fairly disjointed starting in row 1, then seeming to miss half of row 2, then skipping us in row 5 to go to row 6 then coming back to us. Took about an hour to receive any service.

The scones went on an ever more crazy journey. Starting in row 1, then jumping around the cabin. The crew member returning to the valley to get drinks each time. We seemed to get our scones (and an offer of bread) about 30 mins after we had been offered food). My other half didn't have any clotted cream on his tray when it arrived (he didn't seem to be alone) so asked for some more to which he was told that there wasn't enough loaded but that they would see if anyone had not touched theirs. He was not impressed.

This is when things improved, one of the cabin crew from ET came to help at the front of the plane - she was a bundle of energy (the perfect BA crew member in my view and seemed to be quite new). She immediately found some cream (after we gave up expecting anything from previous crew member. She also quickly brought some more drinks. The atmosphere quickly changed with a lot of laughing and joking from other passengers (amazing how some crew members can make a huge difference).

In my view the food was not great (not sure if that is any change from LGW) and in pretty small quantities but wine seemed better quality. And when the new crew member arrived was a really good fun flight - almost made up for arriving 2 hours late!

This is almost the band 3 London-bound breakfast but the Stoats bar was replaced by yogurth

this was the sweet and sour chicken (think it was spicy asian chicken actually) on MAD LHR last weekend.

the size of the tray table is particularly noticeable in the Flub cabin.....

The reflection of the 'Flamp' on the table, coupled with the Do&Co touches gives this photo an air of TK Business about it

BA2956 LGW - GLA afternoon tea

Not sure this picture adds anything to that by C-W-S in post 123 however the salad seems to have gained a couple of olives.

No bread roll or scone offered. Asked about the scone, as did another traveller, and crew seemed to think it either hadn’t been loaded or it wasn’t part of the service on the route, it wasn’t entirely clear which.
