Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

LBA-LHR 25/09/18 1115 (brunch)

Offered a choice of these two, a huge improvement on the previous offerings.

unsurprisingly, drinks run at the same time

BA822 LHR - CPH, Band 2, evening

quinoa, goats cheese and beetroot. Tasty enough with a bit of added pepper. Passion fruit dessert excellent.

Last time on this route I had the old afternoon tea, which resulted in buying food in the airport on arrival. This was much better!

That will be the lunch offering, brunch is served on flights that depart between 10:00 and 10:59. The brunch offering is currently a choice of the meat and cheese plate or the warm vegetarian quiche.

my apologies- unlike BA, I can’t cope with the concept of lunch at 1115!

Band 1 lunch - Vegetarian (non SPML) - new rotation
LHR-NCL BA1332 departing 13:10hrs

Well we were told that LHR would have a 2 week rotation, and so it turns out. So this is the new menu as of today. What I don't know is what happens on 10 October, whether it reverts back to the previous rotation or there are further changes. On this band 1 domestic lunch service, the choice was between a different sliced beef salad - there is a carrot and salad on top of the beef - and this chickpea salad. The dish has olives and cucumber slices with herbs and cherry tomatoes. The top left salad dish was just cobb lettuce, cherry tomato and Parmesan-like cheese (which if it is actually Parmesan can't be vegetarian). I don't know if someone somewhere is reading FT but at least on the chickpea salad there was an olive oil based salad dressing provided on the tray. The dessert for both meals has gone from passion fruit panna cotta to something like "chocolate mousse with brownies and raspberry genache" but that won't be the official version. LGW is on a monthly rotation.

I agree the names are confusing. 1700 onwards should be tea not dinner! https://yougov.co.uk/news/2018/05/22...here-you-live/

Do Band 1 and 2 breakfasts come with both fruit and yogurt? I can only see pictorial evidence for one or the other, despite the guide stating both.

bangers and mash to LCA last week and red thai chicken curry on the way back.

food was tasty though the starter feels like a downgrade on a 'long' route.

Crew seemed to suggest it was hard work (yes, there were 50+ CE pax each way) - whereas one'd think that one tray is easier than the old 'main comes separate later on' service.

On a 15.20 DUB - LHR flight on Monday I was sitting in 5A. Almost everyone in front of me ordered the ploughman's (it appeared), apart from one SPML.
When I received the afternoon tea (which was a SPML - veggie) I could see why. The smallest piece of Dundee cake I have ever seen, and indescribable sandwiches. For a veggie surely egg & cress, crčme cheese and cucumber is easy. No, all of them had some weird paste in them. The guy in 5D actually had to ask for the scones as the captain put the landing seat belt sign ON. I've never seen such slow service: 17 pax over 7 rows and everything came out SLOWLY by hand. First a person would be asked per seat what they wanted to eat and it was fetched from the galley. Then the crew asked that person what they wanted to drink (returns to the galley). After the drink was delivered the crew member returned to the galley and came back to offer scones. Whilst this might all be the normal routine it surprised me on a 55 minute flight that it was done in such a slow manner.

PRA - LHR Band 2 lunch today

Starter - coronation chicken
Main - choice of antipasti or goats cheese salad
Dessert - D&Co what I think was meant to be strawberry cheesecake actually crumbs on top of tasteless creamy mousse on top of strawberry syrup. The first two courses were nice as was the soft roll served with it.

BA680 LHR-IST Band 4 1740 departure

The “starter” was woeful - a few shreds of iceberg lettuce, half a cherry tomato and one shred of Parmesan.

Choice of mains:
1. Roast chicken with pigs in blankets, mashed potato, carrots and green beans - was delicious. Possibly the best I’ve eaten on BA
2. Pasta with cream sauce and mushrooms. My partner had this and said it was good.
3. Beef carpaccio salad

Both cheeses were good and came with a fig chutney.

The Do&Co chocolate mousse with raspberry compote at the bottom was delicious. They seem to really excel with their desserts.

All in all a good meal let down by the starter/side salad.

No menus and I forgot to take photos.

Dinner Band 1 -LHR-EDI

I had a choice of the beef or chickpea salad. I went for the beef but was a bit disappointed but purely because it was not to my taste! I never really got any horseradish taste from the accompanying cream and I thought the beef was an odd texture! That said the chap next to me nearly licked his plate so it was purely my taste and preference, not quality! Interesting I loved my little salad (unlike Speedbird676 above) but I think we all agree the puddings are delicious! Bread an improvement too!

I must admit that one looks pretty miserable to me on the face of it (though a positive surprise upon tasting is of course never excluded). The antipasti lunch also looks tiny, more like a small brunch plate served on a lunch flight.

I enjoyed the full English breakfast on the CityFlyer MAN-DUB last week on what must be Band 0.5. 30 minute flight time and the single crew member in Biz had four to serve.
Despite it being only once per week flight the plane was packed. Nice price at Ł90 one way.

Band 1 LHR-EDI this week was only yogurt (well, it had a few bits of fruit on top, as in the pic in post 9, but I guess that’s not what you mean). My only Band 2 breakfast flights since the change have been from LCY, so not sure for band 2 breakfast.
