Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

I really do not know, but others here will. In any event I do not know when he is coming home - but on the 29th there are 7 Rows but that may change to 6 and a week later there are 4 - again others will confirm or deny that. Either way I think that 12 rows is a huge Club load.

ALC from LGW enjoys the same popularity FWIW.
Thanks for the responses and the welcome all :-)

He knew there was 12 rows at the time he chose his seat (24 hours before departure). I think he had limited choice but got row 7, but was originally allocated a row further back, I believe. I have flown this route before and indeed had a drinks round and menus, and yes it is EF crew. I have been ‘lucky’ with fairly consistent service and very good to excellent crew both MF and EF on my recent travels, to the point I have several forward bookings with BA all in club, all via LHR from MAN. The flight had a slight delay and had the now usual ‘band 3’ Service which was a choice of 2 hots and a salad. I appreciate 12 rows is large, but he isn’t a seasoned club traveller, so it’s hard to manage someone’s expectations on cabin size. It’s just one of those things I guess, but he said the crew completed the service relatively quickly then shut the curtain rarely to be seen again. I just felt slightly embarrassed because I encouraged him to part with his hard earned cash to fly BA club as I’d been so impressed with them lately.

Can I just say this forum has been great and truly informative, it’s been so useful and I have enjoyed reading it over the last few months. :-)

Brunch on Band 1 AMS-LHR

This was my brunch coming back today from Amsterdam. It was very tasty - a definite step up from previous. The quiche was extremely popular apparently - there was also a salmon dish and the ploughmans on offer.

Was he just unlucky?
same happened on our recent LGW-ACE flight. I prefer a drinks service before food and I definitely preferred to have a menu rather than making an on the spot decision. On the return (yesterday) we had said drinks service, but still no menus. Was too hungry to take pictures but the choices were a) massaman beef curry, b) macaroni cheese and c) chicken ceaser salad. I had the pasta (nice, if a little watery) and hubby had the curry (he liked it). Starter was the disappointingly miniscule antipasti- it's tasty, but ridiculously small.

Slightly off topic, but the crew on both of these flights were exceptional. Best CE experience to date. Unfortunately as a lowly bronze, I have no way of highlighting this, other than a Twitter message to BA.

LGW-SVQ (Seville), 21/09 16.30 departure.

This was the ‘rest of day’ meal for this band 3 flight. Same menu as post #191 - this is the chicken casserole option. It was very nice, as was the new presentation. I particularly liked the packet of crackers - no more soggy oat cakes - and Netherend Farm butter. Cheese could use some chutney or maybe bring back the quince jelly, otherwise no complaints at all and every morsel eaten. New wines are good too.

And the return, SVQ-LGW 23/09 19.55

Choice of beef massaman curry, macaroni cheese (I think) or chicken cesar salad. I went for the curry. Excellent crew this time, drinks run before the meal then trays hand-served from the galley. Coffee and tea proactively offered (the new coffee is a big improvement) and plentiful drinks topups.

I have added abstract diagrams and general meal descriptions for each Band at the bottom of post 1.

The Express offering is still to be filled and I'll add that as soon I get a sufficient understanding on the options offered for each service category. Any insight from our LBA/MAN regulars would be greatly appreciated

Thjis is most helpful - Thank You - this cannot have taken 5 minutes and it is good of you to devote your time to helping the rest of us.

Now, I may be thick - but you have put Bands 3 and 4 together. Is there a difference between the offerings that I am not seeing here?

As far as I can make out what we receive on our trays on Band 3 flights match those on Band 4 flights. I believe there are a few nuances which differentiate the bands such as when we receive our much needed GnTs

Indeed Dear! I was always one who got the drinks out fast. After dealing with airports, the Boarding Circus, Taxi and Take Off no matter what was consumed in the Lounge, people want a drink. The whole process is stressful. Get them a drink quickly and the rest will sort itself out pretty much. In Europe - because of the stupid customs bondage rules - we could never offer drinks on the ground. A matter that, if we were delayed with doors shut, I honoured in the breach rather than the observance on more than one occasion.

Nevertheless, I do find it strange that they have seeming homogenised Bands 3 and 4. By definition they could do the pre September change service as there is sufficient time even with a large Club load. Strange.

Could I just check what this was for wiki purposes? Was this just the vegetarian offering from the trolley which is normally available or was this a pre-ordered special meal? In terms of vegetarian special meal options there is AVML (Asia-vegetarian), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

Thanks

With the exception of breakfast, the Express service appears exactly the same as Band 1. I’m still trying to work out what choices there are - I’ve had a choice of 3 dishes on lunch service, but only 2 on dinner service. There is a choice at brunch and afternoon tea - I’ve not done a breakfast flight yet.
