Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

I have had a couple of 'Express' service flights to/from MAN. On a lunch MAN-LHR I was offered a choice of 3 dishes - roast beef (which I had and it was very, very good), coronation chicken or the goot cheese and beetroot salad. On the dinner LHR-MAN I was offered a choice of two items - roast beef (which I couldn't refuse) and the coronation chicken.

Assuming there were no errors in the loading of the catering, there appears to be be little, if any, difference in the Express, Band 1 and Band 2 catering. As far as MAN is concerned this is a huge improvement. I was rather stuffed after the roast beef, and it kept me going until early evening.

Dear C-W-S, how do you find the time in your frantically busy travelling life to become a polymath as well as doing day-job and sheep-farmer?

BA392 LHR- BRU at 08:25. Took the vegetarian breakfast instead of the full English.
No continental breakfast available. The main was a bit of a let down portion wise. The fresh fruits were great.
The union coffee was horrid. Not sure if it is the brand or the way they prepared it. The bread was great.
This was an airport upgrade for 5 tiers points missing for my gold renewal.

I like the look of the superfood pot with the chia seed and the goji berries, and I like the fruit plate! Still not clear why it seems to be one cold item on some flights and both on others though! If I had those two plus a cold plate, I'll be happy for that particular meal, which is paradoxical as I rarely like breakfasts on planes! Even without that I find this particular breakfast bizarrely looks nicer to me than those on longer flights with the small fruit pot though I appreciate that many here do prefer the hot breakfast.

The superfood pot was very good (and fresh fruit plate) - certainly the bacon roll to filled mini croissant maybe seen as a downgrade (certainly perception is croissant costs less) but after a full English in the Flounge I’ve rarely managed space for anything else. I had actually asked for fruit plate without the bacon roll (before realising the catering change) then thought I really should go all out just to check quality

I’ve always been offered the bacon roll and fruit LHR-MAN (expect once when I very gently corrected them that normally it was both on that route)

same on all my LBA/MAN flights. You got the breakfast tray which already included fruit, and the bacon roll was offered as well in addition.

The chicken cold plate option was very tasty and a good portion. Also really pleasantly surprised by the chocolate pot thingy

LGW- Cta - 4pm departure.

I was very impressed with the choice and quality of the new club Europe rest of the day meal. The crew didn’t seem to used to it as they asked to borrow my menu back from me while they prepared the trays.

The real dissapointment was that by the time they got to my parents in row 7, they only had the vegetarian pasta left, which didn’t make a great impression on their first CE flight.

LHR-MJV

My friend just flew LHR-MJV yesterday, 12 rows of club. Apparently no drinks round or menus offered. Has anyone else had this ‘modification’ to the service on band 3s/4s? I’ve just earned bronze status and will reach silver shortly, for the first time in 10 years. These inconsistencies in service/catering when paying top dollar for business class put me off! Was he just unlucky?

Murcia is one of the longer band 3 location. Normally there would be a drinks round before the food on a flight that long, but cabin crew are able to dispense with this if there is a large Club Europe section and not many crew in CE. Or some other factor such as a late departure. The reason being that if there is someone at the back of CE keener on food than drinks, it gets very frustrating for them waiting for a drink they don't want and then the meal. I'm one of those who prefers the food and drink to be served together. It can also happen on Mixed Fleet routes (however Murcia is EuroFleet I believe) if they do everything in the galley, so one crew member runs up and down the aisle and someone in the galley is making up the next tray in response to the previous message from the runner. I've had the drink round on all but 1 of my band 3s recently and I've had a drink round before food on a recent LHR-EDI too, which takes some experience to pull off. I've had the menu cards on all my band 3 and band 4 so far, quite a stash of them in my bag now! Happy to send you one.

Welcome to Flyertalk and welcome to the BA forum BA_MAN1, it's good to see you here and I hope you are able to make good use of your soon-to-be Silver status. However total consistency in the airline industry - any airline really - is quite difficult to achieve, particularly if you are familiar with the low-level details.

Flew AMS-LHR last Friday on the very delayed (last) flight due to the situation at AMS (stormy weather), was given 2 options for the Band 1, Coronation Chicken salad or Vegetable pasta. Took the Coronation Chicken which was way better than the Panini. For me this is a nice improvement (or rather return to some decent food for the money you pay for in CW).
Chocolate mousse was good (not too sweet) and side salad was good.

Cheers!

I think that he was unlucky with 12 rows of Club. That potentially means 48 passengers which is a lot. Just out of curiosity - how did your friend know how many rows of Club there were? Since I have not flown on Band 3 catering route for a while, it strikes me that Afternoon tea would be served at the time that this is scheduled to depart - so it may be that no drinks are offered before tea? I really do not know, but others here will. In any event I do not know when he is coming home - but on the 29th there are 7 Rows but that may change to 6 and a week later there are 4 - again others will confirm or deny that. Either way I think that 12 rows is a huge Club load.

ALC from LGW enjoys the same popularity FWIW.
