Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

Moreover, in the old CW, it would almost never happen only one dish would be left and here, because there is always an element of randomness with relatively small numbers, I have no doubt there will be case where some people will have no other choice than the salad even though it will run out on some other services.
Salad often is my choice in F too, but on this flight no-one seems to have ordered anything other than the beef curry in the first 2 rows except for me (I ordered the mushroom pasta to try it out as I had already had the beef curry before), so I thought the salad was unpopular on that flight. Actually the mushroom pasta may have been unpopular more than anything else

I have just had a Band 3 salad and it was really nice (roast beef option) - plenty of it too. I think I'll start going for CE salads more in the future.

Passionfriut Panna cotta was good - not excessively sweet either!

Fantastic food on 1445 EDI to LHR today, really good. Coronation chicken salad, warm bread, excellent chocolate mousse.

About to try LHR to ARN....

I haven’t bothered to analyse in detail, just very happy with our Band 4 ex-MLA.
I think it is more about gradation: band one: crudite starter+salad main+dessert, band two: composed starter+salad main+dessert, band three: crudité starter+hot main or salad main+cheese+dessert.

I think the rest are just first week mistakes because this is all not always intuitive! Same goes with breakfast - it seems that some people get the yoghurt, others get the fruit cup, others get both. It's anyone guess what leads to one version or the other (and obviously it is the same mains for all).

Low Calorie Meal - Afternoon Tea Band 1 - EDI-LHR

This was the low calorie meal which I thought was pretty awful Lots of thick, white and slightly stale bread. The filling in 2 of the sandwiches was chicken and the middle one was dairylea by the taste of it! The jelly was OK but considering the other offerings I thought this was very poor. Bring back the veg sushi!

I would like to point out that your Jelly is improved! Before it had half of a strawberry.
Now it has 1 raspberry and 3 blueberries. Though it is somewhat smaller now.

I think it should be replaced with fresh fruit.

Tried out the new Band 4 rest of the day menu on BA883 KBP-LHR today. No menus (CSM said that by mistake they hadn't been loaded). Starter was some coleslaw type salad in a cup. Choice of mains was Thai Red Chicken Curry, Spinach and Ricotta Pasta or Coronation Chicken Salad (disappointed on the latter as was hoping for the beef in the light of the posts above!). Everything came at once on the tray, as opposed to previous practice of (larger and better) starter being served first before main coming later in its place. Drinks service appeared to be unchanged procedurally. I had the Thai Chicken and my wife the pasta.

Afraid no photos (there were a number of VIPs and journalists on the flight and I didn't feel taking photos was appropriate in the situation). But for what it's worth my views in comparison to the CE food on this route previously (my wife and I fly BA882/883 once every 6-8 weeks) were/are:

Improvements: coffee and bread rolls very much improved and both delicious - in each case the best I've had on any plane. The chocolate dessert was also very tasty albeit I wouldn't want something that rich very regularly - it might be a bit too much for those of you flying in CE several times a week. The meal service started and concluded more quickly.

Deteriorations: the starter (previously on this route we'd get a substantial and often delicious starter such as the prawns on a bed of seaweed - now it was a nondescript salad which was entirely forgettable and also no longer served prior to the main, so now more of a side salad than a starter); appearance of the main courses - both were pretty tasty but had the appearance of 'slop on a plate' rather than the more restaurant-style appearance of the main courses we've had on this route over the last 12-18 months since the last change to CE Catering.

Overall, a slight deterioration from before - but it could be worse and it was still a decent meal (with very friendly service). On the outbound flight, we (as usual) ate in GF and so didn't try the breakfast although the introduction of a smoked salmon option for those not keen on a greasy spoon breakfast is welcome.

Mini TP-run LUX-LHR-ABZ (15/09-16/09)

LUX-LHR: brunch

LHR-ABZ: afternoon tea

Sorry, I was so busy enjoying my scones that I forgot to take pictures.
In summary: the afternoon tea doesn't only look good, it tastes good as well.

ABZ-LHR: lunch

Option 1: for those who like it, not my cup of tea

Option 2: perfect choice

The CSM was disappointed that the "two girls at the back" snatched the spare chocolate mousse.

LHR-LUX: dinner

I talked to the cabin crew about the delicious food and they were equally impressed, both by the quantity and the quality. And yes, the coffee tastes like real coffee!

There are so many positive reviews on this thread that I have to keep checking I’m reading the BA Forum!!

Has BA got something largely right, for once? It seems so!

Except for the fact there is no hot food on NCE still.

Cheers

I'm American, but isn't coronation chicken considered "1950s food?" Has it become popular again?

Ba0837 dub-lhr (16/09)

I rather enjoyed my ploughman's washed down with a Tanqueray and bitter lemon. With 7 rows in business, I'm surprised they had time to serve us all. Some complaints that this ran out but you can't load 28 of both meal types.

Band 1 lunch SPML Vegetarian Lacto-ovo
EDI-LHR BA1445 13.55

It's Monday! OK I will spare you from a further week of relentless exposure to CE catering, unless I come across anything completely different from the posts upthread. However I have taken the liberty of pre-selecting some Special Meals (SPML). I had a long think about booking SPML, since I have some reservations about doing this and it's not something I have ever done before, but in the end I decided just to go for Vegetarian meals on 4 flights, and seeing if inbound and outbound are the same. Rather than going through the canon of recondite religious catering deployed by some FTers, I stuck with Lacto-ovo vegetarian (VLML), the main and most popular option, plus Asian vegetarian (AVML) to get variety, hopefully.

For this Edinburgh departure it all went to plan and they had my allocated tray immediately ready. So this is the courgette and lentil salad, with the pineapple dessert. There was a lot of lentils I felt, perhaps 4 heaped tablespoons. I really could have done with a creamy sauce to go with it. The pineapple - my favourite fruit - was particularly ripe and flavoursome. This meal is offered in some of the posts above, so it's not SPML specific.

One should note the mini fiçelle which came from the main bread basket, it didn't feature in last week’s outings.

If I hadn't ordered the SPML I would have been offered the choice between roast beef or Coronation chicken, but with the chocolate dessert.

Another A319 G-EUPU, full in ET, 15 out of 24 in CE.

Your sacrifices for the community are deeply appreciated, C-W-S, and who better to conduct detailed and constant reviews! How many sectors this week?

PS: I like the “Journal du Jour” ... shall I try to collect a full set?
