Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

Band 4 from LGW - pasta

I had the Thai curry, a photo of which had already been loaded. My son had the pasta.

@MRS W - I had the Pasta. Curry I can take or leave. The Pasta was delicious. I always add a little of the starter Feta cheese on top and let it blend in. I really do enjoy most of the meals - but then I am a self-confessed CheeseAholic. I even trade my Desert with Him Indoors for his cheese. It's wonder that they don't call me Wallace!

However, those who don't like cheese this is not so good.

I might add that I do not care for the Italian Primitivo - it tastes odd to both of us - and I adore Italian reds normally.

FWIW - I think that big bottles of wine - and serving the Starter and replacing the plate with the main should be brought back on Band 4 catering only as there is time to do the whole service. At this time there is precious little if any difference between the two

Mine was good too!

I did wonder how many had been loaded and how lucky the people in row 11 would be with their choices. I was in row 1 and everyone within earshot chose the chicken over the two veggie options!

Im with you on serving the mains separately. I tuck into my main course first. If I eat the starter first, the main cools down. However, I prefer the little bottles of wine. Im a complete lush and they contain two glasses of vino. If the wine was poured from a full size bottle, I would need to request a top up twice as often!

Also Im not a fan of the Nicolas Feuillatte. Id say its a downgrade over the Castleblu.

Extremely unlikely I would have thought.
Lack of galley space on the CEO/NEO fleet and crew compliment will be cited as the primary reasons why this can't happen anymore. It does beg the question though what the difference is these days between a band 3 and a band 4 service.... Absolutely nothing as far as I can make out.

Fanta and Coke Zero have been removed, Sprite is still alive and well ( but not masses of them)

The one thing that strikes me with these dishes compared to other airlines is the fact that when they are presented the sauces are always put in a clumsy way and are dry around the edges of the plate. They look a bit messy.

This is a major downside to the tip'n'slip of old. Crusty, congealed and burnt edges galore! If the cooking instructions are followed does this always result or are the crews overcooking?

The problem with tip-and-slip was that you took hot food and put it on a cold plate. Not clever.

I think that it would be possible to do several things to enhance Band 4. Bring back cloths to put on the table and, as I said, make it a service where the starter comes out, is collected, the main comes out. At lease they are still using decent glasses rather than those dreadful tumblers AA use. They're fine for a G&T (try getting Slim though - dream on). I'm trying to think how long the nearest Band 4 destination is and Catania comes to mind. 2.5 hours is plenty of time to do the service as I've seen it done in less time that that when this was also done with Band 3.
