Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

Thanks for sharing all of that.

I have to say, the menu looks fantastic! It's the little things like this that really add to the feeling of a flight in business class, if you ask me.

Much better!!

Band one Afternoon Tea

After our brief visit to a somewhat murky and wet Zaventem, it is time to return à Londres. Will there be scones for tea, dear British Airways? This flight, BA397 BRU-LHR, departs at 16:45, so squeaks into the Afternoon Tea slot.

This is another almost full A319 service , 20 passengers in the six row, for the 24 seats in CE, and just 4 unfilled places in ET. Four Eurofleet crew. Another on time departure. For some reason I have always found the apron a runway arrangements in BRU to be odd, but we were airborne in under 20 minutes.

Serving this meal option was far easier than lunch, everyone was served with at least 25 minutes to landing.

And yes, we now have some utterly yummy Do&Co scones, served warm from a trolley top basket, with the aroma filling the front cabin cabin beguilingly. Scone-haters are henceforth banished! The choice is between plain or fruited scones. Or if greedy, both. With Rodda’s Cornish clotted cream and Tiptree jam, what more could one wish for? Actually there is also a trio of sandwiches and a very moist Dundee style cake, with I think dates in it. The cake is best eaten with a fork.

Given that Do&Co specialise in baking, it is a wonder it has taken so long to show what they can do. No more avoiding Afternoon Tea on BA.

That said there is a Ploughman's option too, but hopefully I won't see that too often in 1A. Oh and I have had my first drinkable coffee on shorthaul BA ever! Better than even OS.

Happy days.

Good afternoon

I am flying from Bristol going to Florence in Club Europe.

Has anyone else done this and how does this effect the catering available and what band would the nightfall in?

Many thanks

Welcome to Flyertak and welcome to the BA forum, Luceebow, it's good to see you here. And I hope you will be able to make good use of this forum, as well as enjoying your time in Florence.

That flight is operated by BA City Flyer (BACF) and as far as I know, there catering hasn't changed. It was much less problematic than LGW/LHR anyway. I am not absolutely certain but if you are going next weekend I think you have a chicken risotto, salad, dessert, bread and hummus starter, but I hope @zappomatic may be able confirm. Either way, it's a lot of food, you won't go hungry, and given the food of Tuscany that may be a mixed blessing. The previous thread does have some BACF catering (also look at Birmingham BHX and Edinburgh EDI departures). Start from the end of this thread and then work backwards.

Damn i didnt know this was occuring. Didnt take any photos flew GIB-LGW today. Band 3 meal. (Flew out 3rd Sept typical long offering which i enjoyed) Back to the new band 3. As mentioned by others all courses on same tray. Main meal “ Beef Masamam curry” presented with foil still on. ( I was row 1. 7 rows in CE today only 2 seats unoccupied) other main offerings were Chicken and potato salad. ( lady next to me had it, and hardly touched it) neither did the guy across the aisle, and a pasta dish cant comment on that one. No menu or drink or nuts offered before meal. Bread offered once. The pleasant Salmon & dill starter is gone. Starter was a small pot consisting of olives, and tomato with greek cheese. It was tasty. Fruit compote & crumble, type pudding, not bad a bit bland. Cheese consisted of camembert and cheddar with a couple of grapes. Gone is the apple chutney, which i quite liked. Agree on the coffee cups, being better. On the whole i enjoyed the meal. Cabin crew did get the service done quickly considering their were 26 of 28 seats occupied. I feel presentation is worse with foil on main dishes and plastic covers on the dessert and cheese dishes. So overall pretty good. Just the usual tweaking needed.

Band 1 afternoon tea ex LGW

BA2762 LGW-AMS on new CE catering day 1. Scones have indeed returned and, in my opinion, are better than I remember - distinctly lighter and more crumbly a la GBBO. No clotted cream, however, just new butter and Tiptree strawberry jam. Butter thankfully not encased in plastic but a more sustainable paper.
Mini wraps/sarnies and a couple of sweet cake/patisserie items.
Castlenau in quarter bottles. New mug.

[can I make an appeal that when people quote other posts to delete the images from them as they take up thread space means a longer scroll when viewing on phones.]

I am actually impressed with the presentation and offering. Just need to see what happens from LGW as that is where my CE flights are generally from.

@C-W-S - please ensure that the date of your newspaper is visible when taking photos of your food. Proof of life and all that

On a more serious note - does anyone know if the decaf coffee has changed, or is it still the godawful instant in the sachet as before?

Lunch BA 1442 LHR-EDI 12/0/18

New Lunch offering on BA1442 choice of Roast Beef or Beetroot and Goat’s Cheese salad, with apple slaw and choice of roll. Wine glass now restored to the tray on presentation. Definite improvement on the previous panino or chicken salad- hopefully to be maintained!

Just off the WAW/864 flight and got to say I thought the food was excellent, or at least a a material improvement on what had gone before.

Choice of the beef salad up the thread, sausage and mash and a gnocchi ratatouille. I opted for the bangers and was pretty impressed. The sausages were a good quality, the gravy tasted like it wasn’t just granules, the peas and beans looked green and tasted fresh, and the mash was fine. The starter - a fennel and apple remoulade (I guess) tasted fresh and zingy. Pudding was a passion fruit panna cotta (or similar - no menus handed out) and tasted pretty good. The cheese was OK - nice new crisp read, and the pickle tasted good enough for me. Bread seemed different, a bit more interesting and it tasted, well, bready! Different butter.

Sadly no photo, apologies, I wolfed it down.

The only low point was the wine. There’s only one choice per colour and it was a Calvert Malbec for rouge. Perhaps that’s unchanged, I rarely drink wine in CE, but it was pretty poor.

The lovely CSM also suggested that afternoon tea is being un-enhanced back. We shall see. But thumbs up generally from me.

Yes it did surprise me - menus weren’t loaded so I was none the wiser, although nor was the CSM.
