Club Europe Catering Guide - September 2018 onwards

This thread outlines the new arrangements for Club Europe catering introduced on Wednesday 12 September 2018 based on 5 bands (Express, and Bands 1-4). The main information piece - in terms of timings and the distance zones for the meals can be found in post 1. The following cross references the photos below against the matrix of options. In addition to the photos, some FTers have written extensively on their experiences so there is more to this thread than the pictures. Also note that the menus for LGW routes rotate monthly, whereas LHR routes rotate bi-weekly

Please keep this thread clear for for reviews, menu descriptions, and photos. For chat about the new service arrangements there is a dedicated thread has now been set up for this Club Europe catering opinions and general discussion

Please do not quote photos in this thread.

The previous shorthaul catering guide for Sunday 26 March 2017 to Tuesday 11 September 2018 is now locked, but is to be found here.

Numbers relate to the post number. Vegetarian means the alternative option provided as standard rather than the special meals. The pre-ordered special meals are AVML (Asia-vegetarian), CHML(children meal), DBML (diabetic meal), GFML (gluten free), HNML (Hindu non-vegetarian meal), KSML (Kosher meal), LCML (low calorie meal), LFML (low fat meal), NLML (low-lactose meal), LSML (low salt meal), MOML (Muslim meal), VGML (vegan meal), and VLML (lacto-ovo vegetarian).

There are differences between the offering in/out of LHR, LGW, and BA CityFlyer routes operated from LCY, STN, BRS, BHX, MAN, EDI, and DUB. For BA CityFlyer flights please refer to this guide created by eJetter BA CityFlyer catering guide

Yes the salad is a bit of a non-event. They should have a Finnair type starter- I've always found their offerings to be very tasty (and on the flip side AY should follow BA's lead on the dessert front).

Sherry Trifle. Now you're going back a bit, I remember back in the day, my mum always served up a sherry trifle every time anyone came round. Haven't seen one for years. I guess BA will bring it back if they lay their hands on some ultra cheap sherry and can find a way to serve them in a thimble to keep the costs down.

So that’s what we’re calling it, trifle. Top layers were fine but what was on bottom was pretty terrible, couldn’t eat it. Must have been bad because I normally clear my plate being a greedy sod.

Same menu, both ways, on a recent Malta trip. The cabin crew was calling it 'pasta rigatoni' as if that was a specific dish, a bit like saying 'pasta spaghetti', but I did overhear mention of aubergine which I am not fond of, so went for the sausage and mash. Ooops!.

Your sausage and mash looks positively gourmet compared mine. Pretty anaemic sausages, on something almost but not quite unlike potato soup. The only good thing about the salad was the dressing (although by this stage I had eaten the cucumber and carrot slices). The dessert is indeed a mountain of some form of cream covering the merest hint of gooseberry compote.

Same menu on the way back so decided to have a look, and maybe a just a look, at the pasta option. Incidentally, on both trips, the mains were served with the foil on, which hasn't been the case anywhere else recently, so not sure if that was a one-off (or a two-off) or a change.

Actually, it was OK, with mostly tomato sauce. Any pasta unfortunate enough not to have been covered in sauce, had been returned to its solid state in the oven but otherwise quite tasty.

Excellent service though and, although I was driving and not drinking, I did notice that the fizz was being served from a full sized bottle. It was a 319 so maybe that has a different galley set up?

We had this very dessert on 3 of 4 flights last week (domestic + European). It's not the best of desserts they offer, but Groundhog Dessert Day just makes that worse!
I gathered it was a liberal interpretation of a gooseberry fool ... but basically gooseberry compote, cream, a lonely raspberry and a chocolate disc. The chocolate disc was definitely the best part!

Pre Covid BA's sister company Iberia used to serve a whole plate of antipasti as the starter, it had meats, cheeses, olives and a basket came round with different types of bread. And then soup and then the main. A couple of times I didn't touch the main as I was so full on the starter. I don't think anyone will ever do that with a BA starter.

Perhaps you haven't seen the latest AY offerings? They've had one of the biggest 'enhancements' I can remember in forty years of business travel.

We flew back from Sofia yesterday. We were offered the Slop, the Pasta or a cold salad. We had the sausages and frankly, they weren’t bad but it was terribly School Dinner. The desert was the gooseberry compote with cream of some description. The Champagne came in big bottles and we never ran out in spite of a Club section back to Row 12.

The pre-Covid meals had become quite good and it is to be hoped that these resume as soon as possible.

Don't knock the gooseberry - a very underrated fruit. In fact I might say there is no need to make the gooseberry feel like a gooseberry.

IME you tend to get the big-bottle fizz service on sectors with the mega club cabins - presumably carrying individual bottles for 48 thirsty CE pax starts to create space issues in the trolleys

Yes, it's a bit of a waste of space. I'd personally much rather they used the space on the tray for a pack of crackers and some cheese, and bin the starter completely
