A 773ER with a full passenger load can carry nearly 4 times more cargo than then A380. BA carries a lot of cargo on the BA027/BA028 HKG currently operated by the 773ER. This is one reason why you are unlikely to see a A380 going 2 x daily.

Now as unlikely as this I've heard chatter from various friends / contacts there that LGW are strongly looking at plans to build 2 additional A380 gates hopefully to be live by next summer/ end of Q1 19. Just to throw it into the mix maybe, & i'll emphasize that word, BA are considering throwing at least one of them onto a route out of there. They're struggling to fill the ex-MON slots so if they could throw an A380 on a route there it could free up a couple plane's to be deployed on other routes/ use up those slots. Pie in the sky thinking I have zero knowledge of any BA plans in that respect but there is some reasonable logic behind such a move at least from my outsider perspective
( For clarity the additional A380 gates are a thing, it's the rest im purely speculating on.)

I've read on the Emirates forum that there are plans to build an A380 gate at the main part of the North terminal to allow Emirates passengers to board directly from their lounge rather than schlepping over the big bridge. Are these two gates you're mentioning in addition to that?

Hi,
That is a bit of a reduction in LHR-LAS ( from 10x weekly to daily) offset to a degree by LGW-LAS going from 3x weekly to 5xweekly ( so net loss of 1 flight per week)
Regards

Maybe they'll put the A380 on their 3x daily LHR-LIT service?
On a more serious note, given that BOS only gets the A380 ~3x per week, it's certainly possible they could send it to BOS more often. But BOS is already at 4x daily from BA, so I'm not sure how much more capacity is needed.

As a Chicago resident, I'm saddened to lose the 380, except that ORD cannot cope with it. It is almost always late departing, boarding is a mess, and the local staff hate it.

Just as a side note for the ORD A380. BA297 the LHR-ORD only shows an on time performance of 32% in the last 2 months. Am on it in September and I wonder if this perpetual lateness and the A380's being relatively thin on the ground is a reason for a shift back to the 747. If on time (16.05-18.45) would appear to be a good time for business as you could do a half day in London and with an early evening arrival be good to go the next day.
