London - Tokyo mid-point meet up city
Hello!
I will be based in Tokyo for almost a year and whilst I can return to London from time to time, I was hoping to find a convenient mid-way city for long weekends with my other half. Ideally direct flights from both London and Tokyo to minimise travel (and probably with JAL and BA).
There isn’t a particular obvious option, routes I’ve thought of including Moscow (much closer to London than Tokyo and a hassle with visas); somewhere in the Gulf; New Delhi (again visas required); Vancouver (but then 8 hours time different for both of us).
Appreciate any ideas with this one!

DXB is probably most convenient in terms of flights and things to do, and not super culture shocky so you can just arrive and get stuck into the weekend. DOH with QR if you want something with oneworld. BKK is cheap, KUL, does it need to always be the same city? Try different ones, if one or you has to fly 3 or 4 hours longer does it make that big of a difference?

Moscow. Available on Aeroflot
Helsinki from Tokyp is a daytime flight out and an overnight back arriving early morning on Finnair/JAL. Very popular, Helsinki has many Japanese tourists. Buy shares in Marimekko

And then those downwind of you will leave...
Back on topic: I would vote for HEL, as it’s en-route anyhow, there aren’t visa issues, and is a nice place itself (the airport is also decent, which is a bonus). Lots of BA/Finnair codeshares. There are also several other interesting places nearby - the Baltic States, Sweden, and even St Petersburg - if you fancied doing something different for a weekend. Only downside is that Finland itself is fairly expensive, but I assume this isn’t insurmountable...

that said, i recommend USA given that ME and Moscow are both shietholes. BKK/HKG if ur +1 dont mind the long flight.
The US West coast is 8-10 hours for both of you.
