Cancelled LHR - LAX (BA281 789) 08 August

I am travelling on this flight in a few weeks time and because of the 789 problems and the cancellations earlier this year I have been keeping an eye on this flight.

Does anyone know what caused the cancellation today?

It was due to a shortage of B787’s.

Hope there's room across the other BA and AA services ! Busy time of year - I often wonder why a JFK / EWR service is not scrapped to keep these ones going

The late A380 service is nearly filled up (a few WT and CW spaces left which may turn into a few more once on-carriage travellers are rerouted away from LHR) and normally BA rebook people on to Virgin services as the second step in this situation after AA - the earlier VS service is now full but there are a few seats on the later Virgin service. So my guess is this was chosen for cancellation knowing that there was just about space on alternative services.

Maybe its the cynic in me but do 787 flights also get cancelled due to technical reasons other than the engine issue? I wonder if BA were dealt a 'get out of jail card' for a blanket refusal of EC261 claims with the engine excuse.

I was booked on this flight (8/8/18) until I got the 5:45am cancellation SMS this morning!

The call centre at that time of day isnít the best, but at Heathrow they rerouted me to elsewhere in the US and then United onwards to LAX.

net result of all works is getting in about 4 hours late. Not too bad in the whole scheme of things, but they could have planned the aircraft availability / cancellation a little better!

Thanks for posting this. We are due to travel on this flight in just over 3 weeks and I was interested to know if we would still travel on the day or would have to come back the next day. I don't really want to have to change, but would prefer to arrive on the 1st day as planned.

Are there any 787's due back from maintenance soon?
I notice that currently the BA123 to DOH is due resume 1st September with a 789.

Am I missing something here...........

there is a known issue with 789 aircraft, which the airline has been directed to carry out further checks on. This has been an issue that they have known about for months, but yet they are cancelling services on day of departure.
Surely, they have had enough time to prepare a schedule to perform this work way before now and arrange other aircraft or move pax to other flights?
Unless of course, this flight has been cancelled for other reasons making the aircraft unserviceable?

Or their is a problem with another aircraft and they have robbed that aircraft to fly a service where there is only 1 flight per day. It is not always that simple.
