Flight under "Aiport Control" 7 weeks out

I have an upcoming paid F flight to AUH on the BA73 on 22nd September.

This has been ticketed for a few months now and seats chosen etc. Today when i go to have a look at in MMB I get the following error......

" Unfortunately it is not possible for you to choose a seat at this time.

Please try again later or alternatively please check in at the earliest opportunity.

You can do this by using check in on ba.com which is available from 24 hours before departure."

I had a look on ExpertFlyer and it says that this flight is now under airport control. Why would this be so far out? I was thinking that perhaps with all the issues with the 789 BA may be deciding to run a 3 class 787 on this service?

I suspect it's just an equipment issue, I would leave it a few days, particularly if you can't see CW seating.. Yes there is a risk of a 787-8 swap I guess, and it's possible if you call up that the agent can see more information.

I am seeing this on BA54 JNB-LHR this Friday 10th Aug too. Maybe it is just a BA.com glitch?

Thanks, I can see they are still selling F on this flight (quite cheaply too) so I hope there won't be an equipment downgrade. I suppose I could catch a 777 to Dubai (leaving at a similar time) if BA would pick up the transport cost.

You're right it could be a glitch. Just checking a PVG flight I have in October and I am getting the same message.

I would keep an eye on the seat map using Free Expert Flyer app or similar. This is how I noticed I'd been kicked out of 64K recently and then someone immediately snatched my seat

I'm seeing the same (on Manage My Booking and Experflyer) on all my BA, Qantas and Cathay flights in the next few weeks. Something weird is up!

Same here on my return flight from Zurich on Monday 13th August. I was in an exit row seat so here’s hoping it all remains...

I imagine this is more an IT glitch than BA giving Zurich control a week early!

I can't change my reserved seats in either of my upcoming J or F flights at the moment, fortunately they're already booked

There are reports on Twitter that bookings via BA.com are failing too. Booking a BA flight on AA.com and trying to ensure the BA legs are Hi-J 747s via Expertflyer which is producing the same error.
