Aircraft types operating to Hong Kong, as currently scheduled

In the northern summer 2019 season (up to and including Fri 25 October 2019):-
  • BA31 is operated by a 380
  • BA27 is operated by a 777
Except on Sat 26 October 2019, when:-
  • BA31 is operated by a 777
  • BA27 is operated by a 380
In the northern winter 2019/20 season (from Sun 27 October 2018 to Sat 28 March 2019 inclusive):-
  • BA31 is operated by a 777
  • BA27 is operated by a 380
There are a few exceptions.

BA31 is operated by a 380, and BA27 does not operate, on the following dates:-
  • 23.12.2019 (Mon)
  • 24.12.2019 (Tue)
  • 25.12.2019 (Wed)
  • 26.12.2019 (Thu)
  • 29.12.2019 (Sun)
  • 13.01.2020 (Mon)
  • 24.01.2020 (Fri)
  • 25.01.2020 (Sat)
  • 26.01.2020 (Sun)
  • 27.01.2020 (Mon)
  • 28.01.2020 (Tue)
  • 17.03.2020 (Tue)
From Sun 29 March 2020 (as currently posted), ie the beginning of the northern summer 2020 season:-
  • BA31 is operated by a 380
  • BA27 is operated by a 777
Notes:-
  1. The 777-300ER (77W) is the 777 variant usually operating to HKG.
  2. The aircraft that operates BA31 LHR-HKG on any day then operates the following day's BA32 HKG-LHR, and the aircraft that operates BA27 on any day then operates the following day's BA28.
  3. The northern winter 2019/20 information was last checked on 16 July 2019.
  4. As always, changes are possible. Northern summer 2020 is almost certainly unconfirmed, including at the season boundary at its beginning.

BA Hong Kong equipment changes

From 28th October 2018 the B777-300ER will be replaced by an A380 making HKG a fully A380 operated destination.

Update, 1125: Seems actually they have just swapped the aircraft types over. Same equipment remains just the B77W is on the earlier flight ex-LHR.

Just a heads up for people like me with seat reservations that have changed!

I’ve had an email this morning about seat selection which reveals an equipment change from an A380 to a 77W on the BA31 in mid December. So definitely not an all A380 route!

same here. Early jan it seems the BA31/32 is now a 777. I deliberately booked the BA32 to go on the a380 and avios the 777!

Yes, jumped the gun... seems there are still some B777s but also A380s where B777s used to be.

My BA31 in March ‘19 has gone from 777 to A380. Looks like BA27 has swapped A380 to 777 on the same day.

If it stays that way I will be very happy

I have a booking for November in Y. I'd booked the late outbound due to the timing, even though it was the 777. Very pleased to see that it's now changed to an A380. However, both inbound options are basically at the same time, so I booked the A380, which has now changed to a 777. Do you think it's worth calling and asking to swap to the A380?

Looks as if going forward they have swapped the aircraft round so the earlier flight is now an 777 and the later one the A380......

Makes sense for the LHR-HKG direction, if more people want to leave in the evening rather than mid-afternoon. But what's the point of swapping the HKG-LHR direction?! Both flights are within 15 mins of each other anyway...
