Which BA aircraft best for First?

I'm a Lufthansa *A regular venturing into BA territory. I'm planning LAX-LHR-JNB RT and curious to understand any noticeable differences in the First cabins between the A380, B747 and B787 utilized out of LAX this coming winter. I generally like the ride better in the A380, but that flight leaves a bit later than desired so wondering if I'm giving anything up by taking the B787 or B747 earlier in the day? Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks!

Iíve only done BA F on 787 and I loved it but pretty much slept the whole flight. That said, my only other reference points for BA are the 777s in J from Australia so thatís not a fair comparison.

In general I prefer the 787 over the 380 anyday but thatís subjective and I know everyone will have an opinion on that subject.

If you can make the timings work - I would definitely mix it up; A380 for night flights - so the whole outbound, and return using A380 and onto the 789 back to LAX. I really really like the 789 F but it feels more spacious to sleep on the A380

The A380 is the only one i wouldn't feel short changed in. I am yet to fly the 787 but i can't see how such a small seat would be better, and the 747 is beaten by some J products in 2018.

I do like the privacy of sitting up front in the 747 but the personal storage space is less than what you get in the A380 or 787-9. The difference between the 787 and A380 is that the buddy seat has been done away with due to the position of the screen on the 787, also the small cabin makes it harder to get a window seat on the Dreamliner. 1A on the A380 is my preferred seat.

I havenít done first on the a380 yet however I think the 787 if you are flying on your own and donít want to use the buddy seat is excellent product. The only thing there is some of the interiors I think look a little scratched and falling apart for the age of the aircraft.

I also think the 747 is excellent which I know is not to everyoneís tastes but 2a/k are incredibly spacious around the seat. Also itís just more iconic I think!

The one I always try to avoid is the 777 mainly because of the galley light that comes through from the front unlike on the 747 and it just feels more cramped and not as exclusive as the 747 up front or the smaller 787 cabin.

Very subjective, but if solo, I prefer the 787-9, the newest suites... if I travel with my wife, then the A380 for space and buddy dining, row 2 best IMHO.

Finally, to be nostalgic and feel special, Seat 1A or 1K on the 747...

1A on the 747 just feels so special, buts that’s based on nostalgia. The A380 is the most spacious and comfortable. I find the 789 first cabin cramped, the aisles are very narrow the seat feels smaller and I find it a lot noisier than the A380. The only improvement was the large tv screen.

789 for me as it just feels like a more modern F product - the rest just feels a bit last generation.

Avoid the 747, its cramped and easily the least impressive of the 3. As you aren't a BA Gold, you wont be sitting in 1A or K on an LAX flight, I'd be reasonably sure of that.

I really didn't rate the first class seats on the 747. The lack of storage around the seat (E/F) actually made me wish that I was back in business class.

Avoid the 747 for BA F - it is not a true F product since it is so dense, especially the highly acclaimed Row 1 seats

Dang. I'm on the 787-9 in 3 weeks and I didn't realise there aren't buddy seats. I was hoping to have dinner with my travelling companion.

I love F on the A380 and actually quite like the 777. I have my first F sectors on the 789 next month and I was excited to try a more modern F cabin until I seen recent pictures of the state of it, with scuffs and masking tape everywhere. It doesn't seem to have aged very well .

Not BA business class then where there's no accessible storage at all !!

Thanks everyone, this is all very helpful. I think I'll take the 789 out of LAX for my solo sector since it's a better time by 5 hours for me, then the A380 to/from JNB and we will end up on a 747 or 789 on the return to LAX. I'll bring an open mind and try not to compare to LH F. Besides, trying something new is always fun. Our reward will be the $8,000 savings between the two of us!
