LGW very very early for flight.... [Can't go airside 6+ hours before flight]

Due to family stuff earlier we found ourselves at LGW very very early today to be told we can't go through security more than 6 hours before the flight? Is this a LGW rule or BA?

I believe this is LGW, I had a similar experience at DUB where the limit was 4 hours and that was also airport related

I think LHR t5 is maybe different as its only BA in that terminal, That's a guess mind you.

How did this come about? Did the entry gate machine reject your boarding pass?

I would be interested to know how VERY EARLY is. Just in case we end up with an odd connection time, which is not unknown, or leave an LGW hotel early for a FLounge breakfast etc.

Although 6 hours should cover most eventualities!

Yup the security machines said seek assistance. Checked with the person manning the premium security and was told 6 hours which GGL team confirmed.

Very early was just under 9 hours which an RFS fixed

Such a rule at LHR would be a real pain for me as I have been known to arrive a fair bit early for flights. I’m sure I’ve also arrived at T3 over 6 hours before a flight so don’t think this is just T5 where early arrival is allowed.

I received the "too early" message at LGW once before but the security guard was happy to override it and let me through.

Do you foresee any issues with conformance?

Great service from any international airport (not)!

Indeed 6 hours at LGW, I did an overnighter there last year and they wouldn't let me go airside before the 6 hours.

No problems at T3, I've done that before. I'm not sure about T2 though.

Even in the Usa at LAX i was through security at +7 hours at United's terminal 7 but i don't know how much of that down to TSA PRE i did spend a few nice hours in Air Alaska's Lounge in term 6 Airside gained access via Priority pass as i was only flying United Y class.

I've certainly been airside > 6 hours before, but that was about a year ago so things may have changed.

My London meeting for the day was cancelled, so I spent a day working in the Flounge. Well, I spent a few hours working in the lounge and then a few more hours drinking in the lounge, but don't tell my (former) employer that okay !

I know LHR T3 if you arrive too early the automated systems won't let you through on fast track security, but I've done this a couple of times and the security staff member has passed me through after seeing my ticket/app.

I'd rather get a day room than be airside more than about 2 hours before at pretty much any airport

That depends on who's paying for the day room the company or out of my pocket it would be the lounge. Exception being after an overnight flight in Y.
