F on the A380 - Worth it?
I'm flying LHR-HKG next month and Avios upgrade availability has just opened up for First.
I've already got 53A on the upper deck reserved. And was wondering if its worth splurging the 27k avios. I haven't experienced the new BA Club service - which I'm assuming has narrowed the gap between F and J? Do people think its worth it? Thanks! |
I flew down to HKG on the 31 last weekend in CW and didn't think that there was a huge amount of difference between CW and F now. The only real advantage that I can think of is the CCR and the sleeper suit. Other than that I personally wouldn't consider it worth it now.

Thanks - that was pretty much the conclusion I was coming to!
CCR is alway nice for a bit - the sleeper suit I'm not such a fan of - if only they'd upgrade it to be more like Cathay's PJs! |
As always, highly subjective... I personally would do it for 27k avios. Less people in the cabin, more relaxing experience, better chance of sleeping. |

With CW redemptions costing over 800 in fees, this is a much better use of Acios in my eyes |
Worth it, I've done club and first to HKG on the A380 quite a bit now and it's 100% worth it for 27K avios but I guess that does depend on how you vaule avios.
|
I would do it. Very easy amount of Avios to get back again.
And the F on the A380 is my favorite, much better than the 77W's or 772's I flew LHR-HKG last month on BA in J , it was pretty pants. F would be that much nicer. |
Not to mention access to the F lounges as well.

For me the differentiator is if you are travelling solo an individual seat rather than paired with a stranger is a big plus |
At this moment it's my favorite route, and aircraft, to uses GUFs on :)
Seat is better, cabin is better, service is better, food should be better. If you one has no problems to regain those avios, or no better uses, for me it's worth it. |
It's a long flight where you also want to sleep, but not too many avios to upgrade. Everyone's financial and avios situation is different, but unless you're saving them for something else, I'd say it's one of the best possible uses.
As it's on the eastbound service, F might also help you to get to sleep earlier with a proper meal in the CCR first although HKG is not too bad for jetlag in either direction (at least not for me). |
Although I have never flown premium economy, I think it is now the same as CW. Why not cancel your booking and re-book in that class to save even more Avios? |
7 to one for. Hopefully the OP didn’t just act on the first advice given |

No hesitation from me to upgrade for so few Avios. |
I'd jump at it.
Far better seat and privacy. No extra cash to upgrade, just Avios. Concorde Room access. |
