A few years ago, on the other hand, I was on LHR-BOS and a woman was brought on by police and her passport was handed over to the cabin crew. On arrival into BOS, we had to remain seated as CBP and US Marshals boarded and took her off, although it was done quietly through stairs attached at 5L as those of us in window seats got to see her being put into an unmarked car and driven away.
Both these procedures are actually fairly routine from the UK perspective - the former example sounds like a typical British 'Voluntary Removal' done by Border Force, and the latter sounds typical of where somebody would be refused entry to the UK but there is some sort of criminal matter which is of interest to Homeland Security (or other US Law Enforcement) where they want to speak to the person.

We normally get the tower to ask the crew to keep people seated but if that doesn't happen for whatever reason then it's just a happy surprise when they open the door and see us!

indeed, the UK process always seems to be ‘could everyone please remain in their seats’ and in my experience captains always mention the reason, which I suppose both ensures cooperation and spares a big shock to the person concerned.

in some other airports where the gate design allows it (eg CDG) the police choose instead to allow the disembarkation but filter passengers out with a passport check (and second set of police at bottom of gate presumably should the person try to make a run for it)

That makes a lot of sense, actually. I'll never swap seats with anyone ever again

I and many others would be very happy to be a PAX or a customer on a train on The Lakes Line. We don't care what we are called we just want trains.

Presumably the organs aren't being used by the passenger being arrested, as in the OP's case?

In the US, they designate flights that are carrying organs as "lifeguard" flights and are given priority. However, if there isn't a scheduled flight operating when the organ needs to be moved, private transport is used such as air ambulances, lifeflight helicopters and even standard private jets; once I even got to see a Coast Guard helicopter ferrying an organ from my local hospital.

I've only had one flight where a passenger was arrested. It was a domestic flight in the US, we departed the gated and were taxiing to the runway, stopped and then returned to the gate. The pilot made an announcement about "returning to the gate to resolve an issue". Got to the gate and 3 local police came on board and removed a passenger.
