Use of 787-9 on services with no F cabin

Why is BA using 787-9s on services with no F cabin yet it is cancelling services on 787-9 with an F cabin ( LAX & SJC). Today is a classis brand new G-ZBKS on BA277 to Hyderabad .

My guess would be because the Joint Business Arrangement looks after North America, so BA can then focus on their second most profitable market - India - where they won't want any leakage.

It won't be looking so brand new after a few trips to India

Seems to happen quite regularly for the HYD route (and others I am sure).

Is it due to the restrictions on ETOPS routing with the problem engines, which appears to affect the 789 more than the 788?

My 788 on BA18 for 17JUN has been swapped for a 789. I was moved from 3K to 13K. I can see that 7K is blocked - what are the chances of being able to swap my 13K for 7K (which may be blocked for crew rest?) either at check-in at ICN or once on-board?

Thanks!

If it remains a B787-9 the flight crew will take a First seat and 7K will become available but this won’t be shown in the system so ask onboard.

Just as an FYI, I operated the BA18 from ICN earlier in the week on the B787-9, whilst on the outbound BA17 to ICN it was an 800. My roster showed as the 800 both ways, it was only when I generated the briefing sheet for the flight home I noticed we had an aircraft change to the 900. As Club was not full, First was blocked off so fingers cross you should get 7K

Hello - this actually happened the week before to YYZ, I was originally on a -8, which got swapped to a -9. First was blocked off, but during check-in, it opened up and I picked 2A. Upon boarding, the attendant did say that "you may have noticed that you are sitting in a first class seat, but unfortunately we're not offering first class service on this flight". So we got the Club amenity kit and menu, although we did get the First duvet.

As far as I could tell, the frequent flyers (Gold and Silver) were in the First cabin.

Seems to be fairly routine on Canadian routes at the moment - waiting for BA94 back from YUL and both the outbound on monday and the return had a swap from 788 to 789. Also means the Y cabin is looking full having gone from 154 to 127. Nice for those in FLUB, not so nice at the back.

Check in has opened for me, but rows 1 and 2 are still grey-ed out. Perhaps because I'm only OWE? Or likely Club is not oversold thus the cabin will remain closed.
