I'm about to cancel four long haul redemptions for later this year due to something unexpected cropping up. I'd hate to see how much money would have been lost had they been cash tickets.

Softened even more if you get a nice bulkhead or exit row seat and have lounge access beforehand.
Helps to get on quickly as well as luggage space is limited.
It's not the most comfortable experience but at that price, I'm willing to put up with it (and have done so a couple of times before for cash).

This could be a great deal as off-peak pricing in WT is already very good...in my case, I could fly Switzerland-California for 12K Avios, BUT the taxes and surcharges are about $280 one way... I just can't justify paying that kind of fees for WT.... Very torn about this one, should I just see this as a high co-pay or stay away like the plague? I could fly Norwegian LGW-OAK for about the same price, and with the downward service trend on BA, the experience might not be that different, so why should I see this as a great deal...

Definitely shouldn't be £137 and only £30 (ish) and 9750 Avios for economy. See post 14 and this is what I was also seeing yesterday which is correct.

There was an issue identified a while ago whereby BA correctly zeroed the YQ for ex-HKG bookings using UK point of sale, but (inadvertently?) didn't on US point of sale. I can't find the thread now but IIRC the members affected successfully got BA to refund the unlawfully charged YQ.
As a data point my BAEC account is UK based and I am quoted the [correct] £31.20 price ex-HKG. [ETA:] But bizarrely this is slightly more than the £29.44 quoted by boonkoh above for the exact same flight. Could be a currency change but seems a rather drastic one in the short time since they posted.
