What’s up with G-CIVI’s tail?
Came back into Heathrow last night and noticed this. Assume it’s just cosmetic, but I was a bit surprised to see a BA plane looking so unloved. I’m used to it on the inside obviously! Maybe a recent lightning strike?

I saw her last week as my flight was taxing to the runway and wondered what on earth had happened, seems a bit odd.

Bit of duct tape and she’ll look as good as new.

Embarrassing. If that's been like that as long as a week, things must be getting desperate in BA maintenance.

I guess they might want to repaint the whole thing, rather than just the tail, but it does look pretty bad.

With the current situation with 787s, all paintings have been postponed. Maintenance - obviously - still goes ahead on schedule, but those inputs that take time off the schedule and aren't mandatory are likely to be scheduled to a later stage. Also, don't forget that we no longer have a paint bay, so the chance of doing a quick job to patch up the tail aren't feasible.
This is my opinion and not my employer's.

Yup, gone a year ago. Both BA & IB now send planes to Rome or Dublin.

IB have had aircraft in AUH recently too. Somewhere they don't even fly to.

Make sense for a small company like BA with a few planes.

Looks like typical "damage" caused by a hydraulic leak

I doubt they were there for painting, the contracted company doesn't have hangars over there. A charter perhaps?

TBJ/K has 3 bays, all are now maintenance hangars.

irony aside, it really doesn't, even if you added BA and IB together. I don't think that even LH has a paint business in house, but I might be wrong.
