Weather related disruption at London airports - 31 May > 1st June

I’m due to fly LHR-MAD-OPO tomorrow, leaving from LHR at 1:20pm.

I’ve noticed there is a yellow warning for rain issued for tomorrow. I’ve also seen that some weather forecast services are showing a high risk of thunderstorms starting in the morning tomorrow.

Should I expect disruption at LHR tomorrow?

BA have cancelled proactively a low number of flights tomorrow (EDI, GLA, AMS etc). This means they are expecting some disruption. Generally this does seem to prevent the system overloading too much but how that affects a given flight is impossible to say at this stage, other than that those flights in the schedule are now expected to operate.

[It's always good to put a date into threads like this, since "tomorrow" will turn into "today" and then "yesterday", at least on current trends].

As I can see, a few more flights have been cancelled today to various domestic and short-haul destinations.

As of now, 25 flights cancellations at LHR today. Not just BA, but BA flights seem to be the majority.

BA flights are the majority at Heathrow (about 55% of slots at Heathrow are BA if I remember correctly).

BA also take (somewhat voluntarily, to avoid being volun-told) more of a hit from any capacity reduction than airlines with only a few flights.

Luckily my flight to MAD does not seem to be impacted and no sign of rain or thunderstorms here at LHR.

On board now.

Also tomorrow is forecast as being Thunderstorms for most of the day in GLA and mid afternoon/early evening in EDI.

My flight into LHR this evening is already posting a 1 hour delay, which I know for sure will increase. Out of 6 flights in 5 days, all have been delayed. Nothing can be done, just a fact of life on the road :D

I like posts like this. As you say nothing can be done re the weather and the real hardened road warriors seem to take it in their stride like yourself. They are made of steel, or maybe they drink Irn-Bru which is made from Girders ;)

Just arrived at LHR from Tokyo to find my connecting flight to ncl at 14:25 was cancelled. They blame weather but according to the news the storms at due to hit at 16:00. What am i missing? Ive now a 7hr wait till next available flight.

A lot of delays at LGW because of the weather - my flight to RAK is due to depart about 1.5 hours late.

Just as you have come from Tokyo, the aircraft flying you around has been places too, some of them with storms that cause delay and therefore later cancellation. Some flights are also cancelled to even out the schedule when it is anticipated that bad weather will arrive.

Imagine how the aircraft doing the flights to Vienna is doing in this:
